Remembrance Day Events at Canada's Retirement Communities

On Friday, November 11th, retirement communities across Canada will honour those who fought in wartime conflicts and those we have lost.  There will be remembrance services, music and visits to war memorials—and every event will bear the unique and thoughtful touches of residents and staff. We are very happy to be able to share some of them with you.

Many events are open to the public so be sure to call your local retirement community.

Some of the Remembrance Day events in your area include:

Aberdeen Gardens Retirement Residence, 330 Dundurn Street South, Hamilton, ON L8L 4L6   Phone: 905-529-3163

We have a full day dedicated to commemorating Remembrance Day. The day begins with a bagpiper leading in our veterans. One of our residents who was a staff sergeant with the RCCS then reads In Flanders Fields. While we observe the one minute of silence the bagpiper plays the lament. The same resident who is a minister, will deliver a eulogy and we will finish with Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.

Later in the day heritage speaker CDR Robert Williamson will present a slide program in a related subject such as Formidable Hero, the story of Canada’s only WWII Navy Cross Recipient. We finish off the day with entertainment by the Lorelei Singers who will sing songs everyone remembers from the war years.

We always have an open door policy in which seniors from the community are welcome to join any of our activities.
