Retire by the water in Port Credit, Ontario

There’s a great new place to retire this fall—Port Credit Residences just west of Toronto. This new retirement community is steps from Lake Ontario and the vibrant and beautiful Port Credit village, which includes a variety of interesting stores, live theatre, movies and dining on the waterfront.

The décor is very modern and contemporary in shades of brown, taupe, blue and teal and because of the site’s proximity to the lake, all of the common rooms will have nautical themes.

There are 150 suites with a combination of studios and one and two bedroom suites. All have kitchenettes and most have balconies. The one and two bedroom suites (which are mostly corner units) are popular and selling very quickly.

Indoor swimming pool

The residence’s location is its biggest selling point but there is also an indoor swimming pool, something not available in all retirement communities. Fitness classes and various types of therapy are available in the pool and there is a ramp entrance that makes it easy to enter using a walker. As a way to give back to the community, local seniors will also be able to use the pool for a modest fee.

Nurse practitioner

Another great benefit for residents is the fact that a nurse practitioner will be in the building five days a week and available 24/7 by phone. No other retirement community has done this, says Karen Kotanko, sales and marketing consultant for Diversicare Canada Management Services, which owns the building.  The nurse practitioner will handle all health needs of residents, including getting blood test results back via computer and work with the building’s doctor (who will be available 24 /7 by phone) or with residents’ own doctors. Use of the nurse practitioner and doctor is included in residence fees. The health care team responsible for the nurse practitioner will also be taking their services into the local Port Credit seniors’ community.

Port Credit Residences sales centre is open and the public is invited to look at floor and suite plans. Prices range from $3300. to  $5300. per month. The building is expected to open in late summer/early fall of this year.
