Aside from commercial retirement homes, there are of course many other options for senior care in the province of Ontario. Comfort Life offers you an overview of those other options and what you will encounter in each of them.
In today's changing society there are many care options that allow your elderly loved one to remain at home and at least partially independent if he or she is not yet ready for life in a retirement home. Of course, we would like to remind you that retirement homes are not what they used to be and there are many exciting options available to seniors today including Active Adult Living as well as Independent Living options. Be sure to read about and fully understand the role of the Ontario Retirement Community Association.
In any case, you should know that home health care in Ontario falls under the auspices of he province’s Community Care Access Centres. This collection of government-established agencies oversees the provinces’ host of funded health care services, including personal home care, nursing and physical and occupational therapy. You can learn more about Ontario’s CCAC or read a feature that profiles the CCAC in action.
Some of the services that are monitored by the CCAC and which may be applicable to you include:
- Home health care. Relatively new to Ontario, home health care groups help to assess what level of care a senior may require. While most people assume that at a certain point they need to “go to a home” this is not always the case. Read more about Ontario home health care.
- The Ontario Community Support Association also provides valuable services to Ontario seniors including driving and other services.
- Ontario also has numerous Long-term Care facilities.
Finally, there are a number of homes that are not-for-profit retirement residences, run (for example) by churches, some municipalities or similar supporting organisations. You can learn more about these at the website for the Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors.
