Financially savvy Ontario residents have one last chance to save money on one of life's largest unexpected expenses. Funeral and cemetery costs, when paid in full before July 1, 2010, will only have the Goods and Service Tax applied. After July 1 buyers will have 13 per cent HST applied.

“There are many benefits to pre-planning and given the approaching deadline to tax savings, now is the best time to pre-plan,” says Harry Renaud, President of Guaranteed Funeral Deposits of Canada. “Pre-planning saves grieving loved ones from the stress of paying for a service and making business decisions, so they can honor their family members in peace.”

Preplanning for end-of-life expenses is an increasingly popular practice in the province with 22% of Ontario funerals being paid for by pre-arranged contract. Because the contracts are guaranteed by the government they are a risk-free way to ease the burden of your family in a very difficult time.
