This license requires seniors' residences, including those in Scarborough, to continuously undergo inspections by the RHRA in order to and receive approval to continue operation.

The Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) sets operating and service standards for seniors who live in retirement residences. ORCA membership can give seniors and their families extra peace of mind as they decide on a place to live.

How to pay for a retirement home

As with most Canadian seniors, benefits from CPP, OAS and other government programs will give you a basic income to cover some or most of the costs of your residential unit. Downsizing into a retirement unit should give you some leftover home equity, hopefully, and you may consider the benefit of investing this and using the payouts from your investment to help pay rental or leasing costs. Many people also benefit from a work-based pension plan, of course. Other than those sources of income, it can be wise to continue investing in retirement. You may also consdier part time employment to help augment your living and pay for the best retirement care you can get. Owning your own Scarborough retirement residential unit may seem like the obvious choice but this is not always the case.
