Reviews of The Lodge at Valley Ridge - Verve Senior Living

Gain exclusive insight into life at The Lodge at Valley Ridge - Verve Senior Living. Comfort Life’s exclusive reviews and videos give you insider information from residents and their families.

Our perspective

This lovely community is ideal for a variety of people. The easily accessible golf course is ideal for golf lovers. There's also a ski hill nearby. The community also offers a variety of care to accommodate couples with varying levels of need. Couples where one spouse needs assistance while the other is independent can stay together under one roof.

Central-west Calgary seniors (and family members) looking for a change for the better might find much more than they bargained for. Take all the best things from your current home and move them into a spacious, welcoming community of happy peers. People here live a full life every day, one matched to the person they are at this stage.

This community offers exceptional luxury in a community that is also, in fact, very relaxed. There are many fun activities on the weekly schedule to get people involved and cement friendships. During the winter months, there are indoor activities (the St. Paddy's Day is a hoot!) and lots of outdoor activities in summer, set against the backdrop of the gorgeous exterior greenspace. You can also take part in coffee time, ladies hour, men’s luncheon, happy hour, etc. Staff here make it a goal to focus on the uniqueness of each community member. That apparent in interactions you see here.

This was the most inviting community for us. It's got a great layout. It feels warm the minute you walk in. There's a big, beautiful kitchen with amazing smells coming out of it. The staff are lovely and kind... It felt like home [right away].

The Lodge at Valley Ridge became home for my father after my mother passed in 2016. Before we chose this place, we toured 10 places in NW and SW Calgary and it is difficult to compare as they each have differences in what they have to offer.

Together, my dad and I chose the Lodge, as we felt it stood out, and hoped for the best. They continued to impress us with their management, eloquent menu & dining atmosphere, amazing and personable Chef (I never saw a canned vegetable on the menu once and i ate their often with my father), and the dining room staff. The Chef created food and speciality items with ease and i felt like we were dining on a cruise ship. Their buffets on special occasions were remarkable and always packed with extended family joining the residents. There was an air of excitement and enjoyment at special food nights too! The airy classy dining room was always inviting.

As my father’s health needs changed I was amazed with the care and assistance the medical team delivered and when we needed home care to become more involved, it appeared to happen seamlessly for my father. The nurse and aid care teams kept in touch with me whenever there was a problem arising or an urgent matter to address. A shout out to Nurse MaryAnne for her excellent communication with myself and my very deaf father; her passion for adhering to nursing protocols that far exceed minimum care made me rest easy at nights. Also a shout out to Ezel (overseeing the nurse team) for handling many phone-calls on behalf of my father when things were becoming more complicated.

All this enabled my father to stay much longer than i thought possible for his declining health, which was important to my father. The Lodge had become a home, and all the staff had become extended family. My father was able to stay almost 7 years until the need for long term care was necessary.

Thank you to the Manager (Glen) for running a quality home for Independent living, and thank you to the reception staff and maintenance staff for always addressing all the residents concerns (with computers, technical issues, laundry, cleaning, questions). No task was left unaddressed; another form of making the seniors feel cared for. There was very low turnover in the frontline staff over 7 years and I believe this also played a crucial role in the “family” atmosphere for my father.

My husband and I both agree, that if a time comes that we need this type of facility for ourselves we would put The Lodge at Valley Ridge at the top of our list. We will continue to spread their good work to all our friends and acquaintances.

To all the staff at the Lodge at Valley Ridge please accept our (myself and family members) deepest gratitude for taking care of my father for the last 7 years. He felt well taken care of and also valued by everyone.

The Lodge at Valley Ridge raises the bar with each passing day and sets a new standard in Retirement Residence living. The Lodge team is a strong Alberta Arm for individuals looking to make the change toward Retirement Residence Living. We are so glad to have seen how far the bar in Retirement Residence living can be raised and how high the standard is consistently set at your location on the global map. Beyond 5 Star!

The Lodge At Valley Ridge is my new pet-friendly home. I am happy! I am grateful for all the smiles and warm words of friendship that always greet me; for the caring and kindness that has surrounded me since the moment I arrived. The staff are wonderful. You are immediately impressed by the dining room where you are treated to a wide variety of nutritious, delicious food, professionally prepared to accommodate your preferences, and graciously served; highlighted by seasonal, locally produced foods. It is a comfortably relaxed environment. There happy times for singing, games, exercise classes, entertainment, happy hour, outings for shopping and to special places of interest. I love the privacy and comfort of my second floor suite; wall-to-wall windows that look to the lovely green of a variety of great evergreens, shrubs and trees where birds sing and flit through the branches while squirrels climb the trees and romp and play. The Lounge along the hall is always open for coffee or a cup of your favourite tea, with fresh baked cookies, and a visit with resident friends or visitors.

The Lodge is very elegant and beautifully designed. The staff are extremely friendly and always eager to help. I found the residents welcoming and engaging even though we were just visiting. I think the behavior and manner of the residents is enlightening and indicative of the level of happiness and contentment within the facility. I was at peace leaving my beloved mother in their care. 2 thumbs up from me.

Warm and Caring! After looking at many assisted living facilities for my Mom, I chose Valley Ridge because of its wonderful atmosphere. It checked all the boxes. Gourmet meals with alternative choices each day … open, bright rooms… lots of fun activities… a nurse and aids on site and caring staff that really have the resident’s best interests at heart. Angela, the lodge’s manager, understands what a hard transition this is for everyone. We couldn’t have done this without her.

We felt very welcome right from the start. Lovely warm and cheerful atmosphere, clean, great staff who go out of their way to make the transition as smooth as possible. Great quality and variety of food.
Our mom felt at home right from the start. Highly recommended.

The Lodge at Valley Ridge is exceptional and customer service is amazing. You can ask any of the staff for help and they will be right there for you with no complaints. Everyone is friendly and interesting to talk to. It feels like the staff will bend over backwards to help you and it's wonderful. I should have moved here five years earlier.

I have lived at The Lodge at Valley Ridge since June 2019. I highly recommend this Lodge. This Lodge has been keeping us safe from Covid. None here. The staff has been friendly and kind to me on all fronts. Always greeting us with a kind word and a friendly smile. It is immaculately clean. Now about the dining room. The food is so good and we have choices on our daily menu. Eat as much or as little as you wish. We can sit where and with whom we wish. I recommend it to every one who wants to know what it’s like here call to make an appointment to have a tour. you’ll see for yourself. [submitted April 2020]

I have no trouble giving accolades to The Lodge, as for the past four years that I have lived here I have told anyone who cares to listen, that if I have to be anywhere without my wife, this is the place. I lived just across the golf course for 24 years and watched The Lodge being built. I always thought that it enhanced the neighbourhood and made the Valley Ridge Community one that catered from the cradle to the grave. Since I have lived here, I have been treated by management and all the staff with respect, courtesy, and friendliness. Nothing seems too much trouble and I am made to feel completely at home. All aspects of life in the Lodge leaves nothing to be desired, from room cleanliness, nursing assistance, building maintenance and laundry, everything is first class, and the food service, quality and selection leaves absolutely nothing to be desired, and the life enrichment programmes are entertaining and educational as well as being fun. I feel very fortunate to be here.

In 2017, when my husband and I found it necessary to move on and find ourselves a place to call home for the next chapter of our lives, we searched the Internet and came up with several prospects. I made appointments to view some sites, and on the list was the Lodge at Valley Ridge. I remembered having a tour a few years before, with my brother and his wife. We wanted Independent living, and the Lodge hit all the right notes. We arranged a time, toured the two-bedroom suites, and were invited to have lunch. We did so, the food was excellent, the service and servers, more than we could hope for. We returned home, thought it over and made our decision. We chose our home here and would recommend our experience to others.

Valley Ridge Lodge has been our home for the past year. We moved here due to some health-related issues, have no regrets for the choice we made as we find all the staff to be very helpful and friendly. All social activities and services are up to our expectations. The ladies in Life Enrichment truly have enriched our lives.

Marian Sayers, resident

Activities offered in our facility cater to every type of person living here, and everyone can find themselves doing something purposeful during the day. I believe that the life enrichment department and the activities that they offer really makes a difference in the well-being of the residents and is what makes this place into a fun and enjoyable place to live. I have lived here for almost 10 years, and it is the staying active and the well-cooked meals by the kitchen that keeps me recommending this place to my old friends and colleagues.
There [really] is something about in-person [exercise] classes that makes a difference to the effectiveness. Exercising, of course, keeps me mobile and lets me enjoy my walks more without any aches and pains, but the part that keeps me going to, and recommending the classes is the social aspect. I have met people in this class that are motivated to keep their aging as graceful as possible, as well I have made friends who are willing to go on walks with me and keep my company because it can get lonely walking by yourself. Also, the people participating in the exercise classes are also the people who attend all other activities provided by The Lodge. This creates a great community and friendship among all the attending residents.

I’ve been here since October and before the pandemic I really enjoyed the entertainment on Wednesdays and that we had so many different activities to choose from. I like the fact that you don’t have to go to the lab to get your blood check! That’s a huge plus. The staff is very cheerful and happy all the time (during this time its much needed).

My mom was originally nervous about moving into a retirement home but now she says we should have done this sooner. She's very happy here, and I feel great knowing she is safe and sound. It feels so relaxed here, and the people seem genuinely happy, both staff and residents.

Manny, family member

Excellent staff and a beautiful home!
