Our Perspective

How we see Prince of Peace

This community is ideal for Calgary families and seniors looking for something a little different, something a little more ideally relaxed. The location just outside of Calgary in Rocky View County, is an idyllic location that offers quiet, country living close to the city. In addition, this is close to the highway, making it easily accessible for family members from throughout the area.

Prince of Peace lives up to its name with its tranquil countryside setting, in a community close enough to the city to make visits easy for family from the city. Inside, there are delicious chef-prepared meals and features that appeal to a variety of tastes, including a tuck shop, woodworking shop, chapel and more. Outside, residents enjoy a quiet stroll with views of the open prairie on one side and the spectacular Rockies on the other.

Care staff here is focused on offering "person-centered" care. Seniors are encouraged to improve their own health and wellness through the excellent food on the menu combined with local fitness facilities. A physician is also on call, and nurses are on staff around the clock. This community offers improved living for newly moved seniors, with many contemporary features like walk-in showers and other accessibility.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

Moving can be very overwhelming for seniors. To help residents adjust to life at Prince of Peace Manor & Harbour we offer many personalized supports to ease their fears. Department managers provide each new resident with a resident orientation, we walk step by step through the key information about our building and operations. Alongside our orientation, each resident receives a resident handbook to refer to. While a resident is learning our building, we provide one-on-one portering services to and from meals. Additionally, we host a new resident tea where long-standing residents and new residents can mingle and start budding friendships.

What might residents find surprising about your community?

Moving to an assisted living community can be a big step. Many seniors see it as a step backward in life, they think they are giving up their independence and will no longer be able to do the things they enjoy doing. Many residents are surprised that it is the complete opposite once they move to Prince of Peace. They now spend more time being social, being active, and often stepping outside their comfort zone by trying something new.

What five facts about your community should people know?

1. We are nestled into the idyllic country setting with stunning prairie and mountain views with the convivence of city amenities a short 5 min drive away.
2. Seniors can age in place, making us a community where you can put down roots
3. Where pets are treated like family, we welcome all four-legged friends whether it is for a short visit or as a new addition to our family.
4. We offer a culinary experience to remember, our three wholesome meals offer plenty of choices and are red seal approved by our in-house chef.
5. There is something for everyone! Whether you are an artist, musician, spiritual, or love to keep active we have a personalized daily activity calendar created by our in-house recreational therapist.

Reviews of Prince of Peace

What residents and their loved ones say about Prince of Peace in reviews.

Leah King, senior

"What a lovely place. The staff are all so kind and full of compassion and knowledge! The nurses go above and beyond and the whole place is clean and sanitary (a priority for my family)! The food is also amazing and I really appreciate all the activities and fun events the staff plan. It really brightens the patient's days and helps the days not blend in to one another. I think it's vital to have something to look forward to and socialization for quality of life and to ward off dementia! Thank y..."

R. Hall, family member

"The staff vigilantly guard against infection from every angle. My mom is quite appreciative of your efforts, as well as all the accommodations you provide for her."

Caroline Fairbrother, family member

"My Mum, who is 97, has lived at Prince of Peace Manor for three years. She has some dementia and she loves living there. She says the food is very good and the staff are professional, kind, helpful and not intrusive. I have found the standard of care to be excellent and staff go the extra mile to ensure that residents are healthy and safe. My Mum and I are happy we found the Prince of Peace Manor."
