Dunfield's Belly Dancing classes provide fitness and funexpand

Greta emigrated from Denmark to Canada over 50 years ago. Always open to adventure, Greta has a positive life learning philosophy which enables her to remain healthy, vibrant and active. Her love for adventure has taken her to many interesting places including St. Petersburg Russia and the Berlin Wall long before they became popular tourist areas. She also participated in a high energy line dancing troupe and travelled with them extensively internationally for over 17 years. Greta has fond memories of her life as a Torontonian including being at Maple Leaf Gardens the night the Leafs won the Stanley Cup in 1967. She enjoys meeting new people and goes out of her way to surround herself with active, positive people who share her passion for trying new things. Today she keeps fit by attending several forms of daily fitness offered at The Dunfield including Egyptian Belly Dancing. "The Egyptian Belly Dancing Classes offer the most complete form of fitness for me and are the most fun I have had working out…so far!” ...

The Dunfield just fits in with my lifestyleexpand

A graduate of the Ontario College of Art with a degree in Architectural Designing, George never lost his true love and passion for Art, even though it took him almost a lifetime to be able to truly devote his time to painting. After fifteen years of being a draftsman, he accepted a position working for Harley Parker Chief Designer at the Royal Ontario Museum. George’s career in design really took off when he had the rare opportunity to work with Marshall McLuhan a Canadian educator, philosopher, scholar and communication theorist (The Medium is the Message). His association with Marshall gave him the opportunity to become Chief Designer of the Museum of the City of New York. Later, George became Marshall’s assistant at the Centre for Communications at the University of Toronto. George served in the Canadian Air Force for four years. He was very active in the Scouting movement for over thirty years as well. George loved dogs, especially Mack who taught him everything he would ever need to know. He felt the same way about his beloved brother Bill who always supported his efforts. George is an active member of the Don Valley Art Club, Toronto Watercolor Society and also the Arts and Letters Club. He has his own private art collection and continues to paint whenever he feels like it. George has taken on a new role at The Dunfield as a life coach and mentor. He enjoys spending time with young individuals and encourages them to get a good education and to pursue their dreams. "The Dunfield just fits in with my lifestyle" ...

The Dunfield - a community of like-minded peopleexpand

Ilse was born in the Dutch East Indies on the island of Java on a tea and rubber plantation to Dutch parents. Her parents encouraged her from an early age to be involved and actively engaged in life learning. She was also encouraged to stay healthy and active, despite being in a war and deprived of a proper youth. Always trying to practice what she preached, Ilse moved to Australia to pursue a career as a nurse specializing in midwifery and then moved to Canada and specialized in cardiology. Ilse tries to "live" everyday of her life and makes every effort not to waste any aspect of it. She loves being involved in physical fitness, and feels that athletics is a form of preventative medicine that helps her keep a positive attitude. She also enjoys being a role model for other seniors. Since the age of 55, Ilse has been involved as a committee member and participant in the Senior Games of Ontario competing in Tennis, Swimming and Table Tennis. Her competitive spirit has enabled her to participate and compete in local, provincial and national games in Canada. She is an amateur Gold Medalist. Ilse recently was invited to represent Canada in swimming at the US Senior Games being hosted by Mr. & Mrs. George Bush in Houston, Texas in June 2011. You can find Ilse at The Dunfield encouraging residents to get active and to participate no matter what their level of fitness or current ability. "The Dunfield offers us a chance to be part of a community of like-minded people from all walks of life. The residents enjoy sharing their life experiences, which makes life more interesting." ...

Frances Sarner is the proud mother of three wonderful boys and grandmother to five incredible grandchildren. A true Torontonian, Frances has lived in Moore Park and Forest Hill and happily at Granite Place for over 30 years. Over the years, she worked as a private secretary, bookkeeper, realtor and assistant to an art consultant. She enjoyed travelling across Canada and her work took her to many major art galleries. In her spare time Frances was a golf enthusiast and tennis player. Frances enjoys being challenged mentally and finds that Bridge offers her the opportunity to learn, meet new people, and stay sharp. She is a Silver Master Bridge Player and is on her way to being a Gold Life Master. She is currently trying to “Go for the Gold”. Frances plays social bridge twice a week and duplicate bridge three times a week. Between bridge games at the Toronto Bridge Club at Yonge & St. Clair, you can find Frances at The Dunfield heading off to an Art Class, Improv Workshop, Memoir Writing Class at the Library or enjoying lunch with her friends and distant cousins in the Bistro. “I toured six other retirement residences and choose The Dunfield as my home. The upbeat decor at the entrance, the impressive view from my suite and the unique activities makes it special. The Dunfield staff, at all levels, is attentive and most considerate.” ...
