8 Foods That Keep the Heart Healthy

1. Eggs

Eggs have been up and down in the food trend over the past few decades because of their cholesterol. But in 2023, experts agree that eating one or two egg whites per day is part of a healthy diet. They are rich in protein and keep your muscles and brain strong.

2..Oatmeal

Instead of eating breakfast foods high in sugar, consider having oatmeal that is rich in whole grains and fiber. Oatmeal has incredible nutrients and if you want to make it a bit more interesting, add some berries or apples to the mix with a little bit of cinnamon.

3. Fruit

Fruits are full of important fibers that improve health and are rich in vitamins. Apples lower blood pressure, oranges can reduce the risk of heart health issues, and berries are full of antioxidants!

4. Salad

A terrific way to get everything you need from a salad is by making it look like a rainbow. Try to add as many vegetables as possible (or some blueberries for blue) that are in each colour. The more vegetables you add, instead of just having lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes, the better! Add some tuna as a protein for some added nutrition and opt for simple oil and vinegar instead of store-bought dressings.

5. Soup

Choosing soups like lentil soup, chicken soup, or vegetable soup is a great option for those craving a hot meal but looking to get away from high-salt foods. Avoid adding cheese or noodles when you can, and instead opt for vegetables.

6. Fish

Instead of eating red meat, opt for fish like salmon or tuna, which are high in omega-3 fat, which is a terrific way to contribute to heart health. In general, fish is a major source of protein thanks to the iron and vitamins found in it.

7. Quinoa

If you are craving carbs but want to avoid pizza or pasta, consider quinoa! Without any saturated or trans fats, it makes for a great grain and comes with plenty of vitamins. Plus, quinoa has folic acid, riboflavin, and thiamin, which are all important for heart and brain health.

8. Dark chocolate

Craving a dessert? Dark chocolate is an excellent choice. Trusted brands don’t load them with sugar and extra fat, and studies have shown that it helps lower the risk of heart disease.
