Residents and team members from the Origin at Longwood community had a very successful December by raising over $6,700 for 5 charities and hope to keep the donations flowing throughout 2022.
Origin at Longwood’s Team and Community Members Dedication to its Spirit of Giving Program Raised Over $6,700 This December
Residents and team members from the Origin at Longwood community had a very successful December by raising over $6,700 for 5 charities and hope to keep the donations flowing throughout 2022 through Origin’s Spirit of Giving program.
During December Origin at Longwood’s community members setup shop in the Vancouver Island Market to sell their hand-crafted items they had been making over the past year in our knitting and crocheting group, painting classes and other Original Expressions programs. This included knitted and crocheted clothing, holiday cards, ornaments, paintings, and other hand-crafted items. Thanks to this initiative our community members were able to raise over $5,100 towards the following charities:
- The Power of Play which builds sustainable playgrounds for children in need of a space to play all around the globe. They strive to create a safe, loving, and fun environment that allows children to do what they do best – Play!
- Nanaimo Family Life Association is a non-profit organization with a proud history of providing services that have touched individuals and families throughout all stages of life and across all backgrounds. Since 1967 we have been supporting resiliency in all aspects of individual and community life.
- Haven Society’s mission is to promote the integrity and safety of women, children, youth and families and the development of a respectful and healthy community. As a leading anti-violence organization operating from feminist principles, Haven Society will achieve this mission by providing a range of services, public education, and advocacy.
- Thanks to the generosity of caring donors and volunteers who contribute their time, energy and financial support, Loaves and Fishes Food Bank is able to provide over 200,000 pounds of good food every month, locally in Nanaimo and across Vancouver Island through service to individuals and over 100 other non-profits, schools, food bank and Indigenous Communities.
Origin at Longwood’s team members also wanted to give back, and in lieu of secret Santa they decided to raise money for a family of 7 through the Christmas Angels program setup by Volunteer Nanaimo. They were able to raise over $900 and received an additional $700 from Origin’s head office.
- Volunteer Nanaimo is a collective of compassionate, generous, thoughtful people who have joined together to offer help, support, and mentorship to our Community through Volunteering. They play a key role in the development of volunteerism in the Nanaimo region. With over 800 non-profit and community-based organizations we connect thousands of individuals with important volunteer opportunities in their community.
Origin’s Spirit of Giving program takes place is year-round, and we hope to keep raising money for great causes every month. Keep your eye open for us at local craft fairs and trade shows, among other community events. Remember, those in need – need help all year!
