It has a feeling of home, or maybe even better than home... It's like a cruise ship on land and there's just all the facilities. [Mom] doesn't have to worry about her meals. My mom doesn't drive, so [before] that was just something that was very difficult. All her shopping is taken care of for her now. And it's got a lovely inner courtyard. Mom didn't get out of her suite very much [at first but] now she phones me. She says, oh, I walked around the courtyard two or three times tonight.... She gets excited about that. And it's beautiful out there.

I say, it's like Disneyland. It's ... just a beautiful place, so it's nice and you feel good about that. You want your mom or any parent to be in a great place where you feel good about it.

I wanted her to enjoy this part of her life and just instead of going from her home, maybe struggling straight into assisted living or care, because I think there's some pretty cool stuff that goes on that she can still [enjoy]. And I think her nutrition has gotten better, and those things make me feel better because now some of that weight is off my shoulders... I go in to see her at least three times a week and she's happy about it.

My sister has lived at Shannon Oaks since September of 2014. She has been very happy there and I have found the staff and administration very kind, considerate and competent in all of their interactions with her and me, I am her main support system and I do not live in Vancouver so it is a huge relief to know that she is safe and cared for. It is a beautiful facility and the residents are friendly, helpful and from my observation live their life adhering to their Christian values in terms of how they care & show concern for one another. I feel safer here than I did at home because of the people who come in here doing checks. There’s a safety about Shannon Oaks during the [pandemic] that I would have never had anywhere else. I love the way that Shannon Oaks offers me so many things, and I can take from it what suits me. I don’t have to change myself to be here. I can take part in whatever I want. My mom has been living at Granville Gardens for just over a year. It is a perfect new home for her. The staff are wonderful and they have done a fantastic job over the course of the pandemic. We wondered if she would cope here with her dementia, but my mom has thrived here. She has made new friends and has embraced the activities here. She has been more active in the last year than she was in previous few years prior to moving in. In her words: "I love it here!". [Dec 2020]

My mom has lived here for 2 1/2 years. She has faced many adjustments, her husband of 70 years passed away, COVID lockdown, and living alone for the first time in her life. Granville Gardens made her feel important and loved. The staff go above [and beyond] to make her feel loved and valued. Eating with her friends is her highlight of the day. Granville Gardens welcomed my sister into this home like she was royalty.  She was treated with the most loving and caring treatment by all staff.  [She] was very sick, and everyone went above and beyond to ensure she was comfortable.  I cannot rave enough about how much [they] accommodated our family and the kindness that they showed to all of us.  My sister's memories of Granville Gardens and our family are, that the people that work [here] are very special, and they truly care for the residents.  I met many of the residents, and they are all friendly and happy [here].
