COVID-19 Information

In the not-too-distant future 2022 will be upon us. The covid-19 Pandemic continues to travel through time with us, reinforcing the need to remain vigilant.

Even though we are not nearly as far from the heights of this pandemic as we would like to be, we are seeing glimmers of hope and fun and smiling (yet masked) faces.

Our residences are hearing music again. We are able to sit together over meals and join up for activities, services and visits. Masks are ever present in the halls but fear and isolation are no longer in control.

Our teams have worked tirelessly and continue to do so in every area of every home. Our residents are happy to be back together, interacting with each other and the team and feeling safe in their home.

Each of our homes have been contacted to host booster shots as one more level in their frontline of protection. Along with this, we are seeing more and more people choose vaccination as one of the best options to protect self and those we serve.

Greenwood Retirement Residences continue to adhere to the direction of our local Public Health Units, as well as our Associations and Regulators. The Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility continue to support our homes by providing direction regarding mandatory policies and testing processes.

Even though public guidelines are loosening we remain vigilant in our continuing efforts to build welcoming, caring, engaging and safe communities.

Insider reviews & perspectives

Comfort Life Review

Applewood allows you to live your whole life in this community and feel fulfilled, in a home-like setting with care available. One of the sure signs that this is a good place is the many seniors who have been here for several years or much longer and have made this their home. While staff and seniors contribute to the homey feel, there are also intimate spaces throughout the community that encourage coziness and personal warmth.

Family also has peace of mind thanks to the care and compassion that’s a hallmark of life here. When older family members move in, the cheerful environment rubs off on them. They become part of that, and in many cases, family sees both an immediate and lasting effect of this.

Executive Director's Message
Paul H.

Welcome to Applewood!

Whatever it may be that has brought you to us, we are here to listen, offer support and invite you to be a part of the Applewood family.

Applewood is a long-standing community member not only of Kawartha Heights and the “West End”, but is also a known pillar in Peterborough City as a whole. We often hear our residents comparing stories of growing up, meeting spouses and finding work right in the surrounding Streets and Avenues of Peterborough.

This is a place where General Electric, Quaker Oats, Holiday Ford and Civic Hospital gather, to make connections, share stories of loss and fill each other with laughter.

History exists in the halls of Applewood. We learn from those who are here and from those who wish to come, the days of the past, the one who was a proud nurse, a well-known farmer or a Veteran of war.

At Applewood, we strongly believe you will find your place. Supporting transition, following life changes and creating comfort and expressing care, is what we do. We want you to know you are heard, cared for and supported within the family of Applewood.

Our rooms are comfortable, and spacious enough for friends or grandchildren to visit, not to mention your four legged companion. We have rooms with a variety of layouts, and when you are ready to visit, we would be happy to share lunch and show you around.

Let us know how we can help you to become a member of our Applewood family. We are here to help you, your family, your spouse and your friends, showing you that we are ready and waiting with caring hearts, to create lasting and warm memories.

Cheers, Paul.
