Comfort Life news roundup for Victoria Day Weekend
Did you know that this year marks the 110th anniversary of Victoria Day? May "two-four" as many Canadians affectionately refer to it, was declared a Canadian holiday way back in 1845 when Queen Victoria was just 26. It became a full-fledged national holiday after she died in 1901.To celebrate the day, here's a little bit of Queen Victoria trivia:
- Queen Victoria became queen on June 20, 1837 when she was just 18 years old.
- Victoria proposed to the love of her life, Prince Albert, her first cousin on October 15, 1839.
- Victoria and Albert had nine children, all of whom survived into adulthood which was rare at the time.
- Victoria and Albert were shot at three times - in June 1840 while on a public ride, and twice more on May 29th and 30th, 1842.
- Victoria's granddaughter Princess Alex married the ill-fated Tsar Nicholas II of Russia.
How are you planning to spend Queen Victoria's birthday this long weekend? Hopefully there'll be some sunny, dry weather so you can plant a box of pansies to kick off gardening season. Maybe the rain will hold off so that nice, long walks can be taken and fireworks launched.
