Happy National Seniors Day!
Parisian parties, art shows, concerts, dancing—and flash mobs at the mall! These are just a few of the fun, inventive ways that older adults will celebrate National Seniors Day today!We asked them why it's great to be a senior and based on the exciting events planned for today, Edith's response is right on target:

Astoria Resort Retirement Living
Astoria Resort will be organizing a Seniors Flash Mob at the Coquitlam Centre! Residents from Astoria and its sister locations as well as seniors from the community, will be participating in this fun event.

Bayfield House Retirement Lodge, Penetanguishene
Bayfield House Retirement Lodge in Georgian Bay is one of the 'stops' on "The Bay Studio Tour", an annual tour of local artisans in the Georgian Bay area. Visitors can come to Bayfield to view the work of three local artists and enjoy beautiful Bayfield House which has over 700 pieces of art of its own, including wall murals and framed art.

St. Hilda's Towers Retirement Residence and Assisted Living
St. Hilda's will celebrate with a National Seniors Day Concert in the church this afternoon. Guests will be treated to the music and puppetry of Don Dunham. A reception with light refreshments will follow in the Meeting Room.
There will also be fitness on the crosswalk and free coffee and Timbits this morning.

Stonehaven Manor and Apartments
Stonehaven will host a "Parisian Saturday" with an accordian player and a mime plus refreshments and prizes!
Anyone in the community is invited to attend.
Local radio station CFRA will also be on location at the event.

OTHER EVENTS:
Dancing Seniors: The British Columbia Senior Living Association (BCSLA) has encouraged all of their 126 member retirement communities to get residents dancing for 90 seconds today to celebrate National Senior Day!
The idea is that at 2 p.m. all 120,000 residents of these communities will be dancing at the same time. Residents can either sit or stand, as long as they are dancing. BCSLA is also giving out buttons to all of the residents that say, "National Seniors Day--LET'S DANCE!" Check with your local retirement community to see if they are participating.
Radio Seniors: Jackie Hickey, RN and Community Health Advisor from Bayshore Home Health will be recognizing and celebrating seniors on the Toronto AM740 radio show, "From a Woman's Perspective" this morning at 8:00 a.m. Tune in!
