Tansley Woods is ideal for a variety of people. Older adults who currently live alone love that they can have all their housework and meals taken care of, and can find friends to talk to just outside the door. For seniors who are advancing in age, there are customized levels of care focused exactly on their needs. The community here is warm and inviting.
Amica is a trusted, premium name in senior living, with a reputation for helping seniors live a comfortable lifestyle in its lovely buildings. Amica Dundas brings to bear their three decades of experience in more than 30 locations Canada-wide.
I visit frequently and always find the staff welcoming and friendly. That is so important for your residence. Thank you for your good care.
Very friendly and pleasant staff. You feel very satisfied knowing that your friend is being well taken care of. Keep up the great work, especially on the second floor, for long-term assistance.
Always a very positive experience at Tansley!!
The staff here are truly caring and dedicated, and they've made a huge difference in my Stepmother's life. She's thrived since moving in, and it's clear the care provided goes far beyond the occasional mechanical hiccup. Perhaps we can balance our feedback with a bit more understanding and kindness, especially when it comes to issues that don't reflect the facility's overall quality of care.
Tansley Woods has amazing staff. It's always very clean, and they take great care of my grandmother.
We recently moved our parents into Amica. What a tremendous experience! Mary, our main point of contact, was extremely knowledgeable and so very helpful. Any questions were responded to with top-shelf professionalism! This has been a stressful time for obvious reasons, but the transition has been seamless. The facility and staff are wonderful. Although there will be adjustments, we are looking forward to a great experience at Amica Dundas.
The Sip & Savour event was amazing. The many Greek dishes were scrumptious and plentiful. The employees did a lovely Greek dance, and residents and guests were invited to join in. Everything Amica Dundas does is “top drawer”.
Great place for mom. Safe and secure.
Everything went extremely smoothly right from start to finish. In fact, I can’t think of even one thing that was negative! It’s been very good. You have all been so patient and so much fun.
My parents moved in at the end of July. Melanie went out of her way to ensure their comfort and was excellent to deal with regarding their move. Lisa the GM was also very helpful and open to feedback. Now that they've been there a few months, they are enjoying the amenities, the programming and the location. I appreciate the efforts of all staff to engage residents in programming that fits their interests. Staff at the front desk, especially Carole and Yogi, are very welcoming. I would highly recommend Amica at Dundas.
I spent three months researching retirement residences. It didn’t take long for me to decide that Amica residences were a cut above the rest. Amica is philosophically aligned with my values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. That is reflected in everything they do, including the staff they hire and the programs they provide. Amica Residences are very pet friendly, and they consistently hav ... Read more
My parents have been living at Amica Dundas for 7 months now. Once my Dad lost his driver's licence they were completely dependent on family for all of their needs. Moving to Amica Dundas has given them back their independence and has given my sisters and me the peace of mind of knowing that all of their needs are being taken care of and that they have the support that they need today and will ... Our Village is a proud part of a Canadian family tradition of community building that goes back 70 years. The first Schlegel family home became the foundation of what Schlegel Villages is today. Here at The Village of Tansley Woods, we offer several lifestyle options to meet a variety of needs. Our continuum of care allows for residents to age with us in place as their needs change. The residents we serve come from a range of backgrounds that thread together the fabric of our community, and while we know resident-centredness is a term that many lean on these days, we truly do focus on each individual’s wishes to guide our approach to service. Our Signature Programs help us focus on the individuality of each resident we serve. Our LIVING in My Today dementia care philosophy, for example, was developed by our team and our partners alongside people with lived experience. This provides our team the opportunity to learn exactly what it means to support a person who is experiencing the changing perceptions of dementia. We also celebrate the Wisdom of the Elder as another Signature Program, thanks to the inspiration of our founder Ron Schlegel. Ron once said: “The greatest untapped resource in Canada, if not the world, is the collective wisdom of our elders,” and we honour the individual and collective wisdom of those we serve in ways large and small.
Amica Dundas is tucked into a neighbourhood with an inviting combination of established homes and the lovely green spaces and walking trails of the Rotary Creekside Parkette directly beside us. Take advantage of boutiques, services and eateries just steps away or meet a friend for coffee at Detour Café. Our neighbours include the Hamilton Public Library, Dundas Valley School of Art, and Carnegie Gallery.
The Village concept that sets us apart was always meant to create a living space for seniors that feels like a small town. In many ways this is similar to the experience our founder, Ron Schlegel, had growing up in Ailsa Craig outside of London, Ont. Our Main Street connects to the Town Square as the social spine of the Village. Together these spaces allow for indoor and accessible options for residents to live life as they always have. Ron also envisioned the Village as community hubs for seniors and others from the surrounding community. His vision was to connect the Village to the broader community to enhance the lives of residents as well as support those living outside the Village.
At Amica, we empower residents to live independently while enjoying the peace of mind that comes with knowing total support is always available if needed.
Our diligent Wellness Team delivers professional, around-the-clock care that is personalized to each resident’s individual needs. Thanks to an in-depth discovery process upon move-in, we can ensure that each senior enjoys both the lifestyle and care experience that is best suited to them and their loved ones.
We take pride in the flexibility our residents have to plan their day as they wish: when and where they dine, which activities and social opportunities to participate in, when to enjoy downtime and more.
Each resident who calls the Village home, comes with a unique life story. By completing our My Experience (ME) Form, you help us better understand your life, experiences, values and preferences. In order to support you to live well within our village, we need to begin by hearing your story. Your dedicated Village Experience Coordinator helps guide you through this paperwork and helps make the move-in experience as smooth as possible. Our resident Welcoming Committee strives to help their new neighbours feel welcomed and connected.
Seniors are assigned a personal move-in liaison—one of the department leaders of the residence—to assist them with every step of the move-in process. We are happy to provide assistance with downsizing tasks before residents move in as well.
Once seniors arrive, they are paired up with a current resident ambassador. This ambassador helps the new resident navigate their first few days, guiding them and answering questions about all aspects of residence life.
At The Village of Tansley Woods, residents benefit from a continuum of care within the same village community. As needs evolve, residents can access additional supports such as assisted living, memory care, and long-term care, with professional care teams available around the clock. This approach allows residents to remain in familiar surroundings while receiving the level of care that best supports their wellbeing.
We understand that needs evolve overtime, and we are ready to accommodate residents with the following:
• Enhanced care services through to end-of-life, including Memory Care
• À la carte care services that seniors can add onto their current lifestyle option
• No obligation to move out once care needs change
Seniors who prefer a small residence or a highly private lifestyle with minimal interaction may find another type of setting more suitable. Tansley Woods is designed around the Schlegel Villages philosophy of community living, where daily life includes shared spaces, programs, and opportunities to connect with others. Our village appeals to people who value connection, participation, and the reassurance of a full continuum of care.
Each Amica residence has its own distinct atmosphere and sense of community, based on the building’s design, its team members and residents, among many other factors. We encourage seniors and their loved ones to gauge whether Amica Dundas feels like the right fit for them by touring the residence, meeting our team and current residents, attending events, and perhaps experiencing a trial stay. Our team is happy to answer all questions families may have, so that we can support them in the decision-making process—even if it means recommending another location.
New residents often say “I wish I had done this sooner!” They’re surprised by how quickly they become absorbed in the community and how fast new friendships develop. In no time at all, everybody knows their name and like in any small town, a walk down Main Street is an opportunity to connect with friends and new acquaintances. People are also surprised by opportunities offered to grow and learn in their new community. They find new passions like hosting a podcast, riding a mechanical bull, becoming an artist or fulfilling a lifelong dream of skydiving. As they say, the possibilities are endless.
Our residence is large in size (215 suites), but the community has an intimate, homey feel. Team members know all residents personally, including their needs and preferences. Seniors easily build friendships with each other as well, meeting during life-enriching activities, dining together and bonding over common interests.
In the coming years, Tansley Woods will continue building on the village model that supports aging in place. The focus will remain on strengthening programs, services, and care supports so residents can continue living with independence while receiving the assistance they need. The goal is to further enhance the sense of connection and wellbeing that already defines life within the village.
In addition to having more seniors join our residence, we are always looking for ways to integrate more closely with the community-at-large. We are proud to be embedded in such a beloved town full of art and culture, and our vision is to grow with the surrounding area while doing everything we can to remain a strong community partner and a good neighbour.
We make it a priority to plan events and experiences that will serve the entire neighbourhood, so we hope seniors feel welcome to bring their family and friends to visit us!

The Village of Tansley Woods is located on the corner of Upper Middle Rd. and Itabashi Way where the street is marked by the flowering of Sakura (cherry blossom) trees every Spring. The blooming of these trees occur at the end of April to early May and is symbolic of the close friendship between the cities of Burlington and Itabashi, Japan. If you further explore the neighbourhood, you will find the Itabashi Garden and Itabashi bridge over Shoreacres Creek and trail by the Tansley Woods Community Center.
