St. Catharines Seniors Homes

Choose your retirement lifestyle in the garden city

Independent living retirement homes are suited to seniors who are active and healthy while nursing homes (more often called continuing care homes) are for seniors who need more care and medical aid. Assisted living homes provide help to seniors with daily tasks like bathing, grooming and eating. Memory care homes are for seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s, dementia or similar diseases.

Seniors homes offer single-room or duplex accommodation with services like housekeeping, laundry and meals. Other facilities like a chapel, spa, salon, lounge room and guest rooms might also be available. Many St. Catharines seniors homes have luxurious rooms, picturesque surroundings and chef-prepared meals for residents. More recently built facilities enable access with wheelchairs and walkers. Sensors and alarm systems provide additional safety to seniors.

Life and retirement in St. Catharines

St. Catharines is known as the garden city due to its 1,000 acres of parks, gardens and trails. It is the largest city in Canada's Niagara Region and the sixth largest urban area in Ontario, Canada. A number of call centers operate in the city due to its strategic location. The city of St. Catharines strives to recognize and meet the diverse needs of its citizens, making it a great place to live for all.

There are a large number of seniors in this region and the average age of St. Catharines residents is 41.7 compared to the Canadian average of 39.5. Aging of the population is probably one of the most discussed and debated subjects in Canada today. The number of Canadians aged 85 plus will nearly double over the nest years, rising from about 500,000 in 2006 to about 900,000 in 2026. The population of individuals aged 65 and over is a very heterogeneous population in terms of health, cultural origins, financial situations, living arrangements, and so on. Additionally, the characteristics of younger seniors aged 65 to 74 are in many cases dramatically different than those of persons aged 85 and over.

It is important to give these seniors the right type of care and services so that they can have the best lifestyle and health possible. Today, many elders prefer seniors homes as they do not have to worry about caring for their houses and performing daily chores. Also, these elder care homes provide a wide range of services, facilities and amenities to help seniors lead a healthy and secure life. Recreation and social activities add to the enjoyment of staying at the elegant seniors homes in St. Catharines.
