What is assisted living in Kingston?

Assisted living is a housing community that allows seniors to enjoy their retirement to the fullest. Communities offer residents various levels of medical and personal care. Right in the comfort of their new home, they have access to PSWs, nurses, and doctors. There is also on-call emergency assistance.

Family members gain peace of mind, knowing that loved ones have access to the care they need.

Here's what you can expect from assisted living communities in Kingston, Ontario. (This generalized description may not apply to all communities listed above.):

Individualized care

Assisted living communities pride themselves on individualized care packages. When you first move into assisted living, you'll meet with staff to create a care plan. Most residents require assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). These include dressing, bathing, transfers, and medication administration. If you have any further, specialized health needs, those can also part of your plan. This, of course, is in addition to housekeeping and daily meals

In-house nurses and PSWs have extensive experience with all types of care.

Energetic culture and community

Other staff in assisted living retirement homes organize lively social activities that foster an inclusive, energetic community. There's always something going on! Residents enjoy sports like bocce ball, swimming or fitness programs. Or, they can spend an enjoyable afternoon on an assisted trail walk, or doing arts and crafts with friends. Some may try baking their favourite, tried-and-true recipes in the hobby kitchen. Some assisted living communities listed above describe their residents’ days as “guaranteed fun”!

Staff go out of their way to keep the community’s energetic culture alive. One family member, Teri-Lynn, said, "the staff are wonderful and the activities and socializing are amazing... The creativity and [relentlessness] of the staff is unwavering.”

Central locations for many communities

Many communities are close to coffee shops, restaurants, movie theatres and public libraries. Kingston also boasts many beautiful parks and trails in charming, family-friendly neighbourhoods. Assisted living communities ensure their residents are an active part of their local community. They also offer weekly excursions and shopping trips.

Kingston is conveniently located off highway 401 and equidistant to Toronto and Ottawa. This makes it an easy location for out-of-town family and friends to stop by for a visit. They might even be jealous of residents' joyful, safe, and improved quality of life!
