Our Perspective

How we see Carleton Place Terrace by Symphony

This is an ideally charming location for seniors who need assisted living or are in the middle to later stages of Alzheimer's Disease. Given the nature of dementia, this is the best place to be, where there are positive peer interactions, a clean, well-lit space, and therapies and services that alleviate some symptoms. It's perfectly situated for families from throughout the Ottawa Region or elsewhere in eastern Ontario. Families rave about the friendliness of everyone here.

This is a lovely small town retirement residence on the outskirts of Ottawa. The focus here is on providing assisted living to dementia care, creating a community of similarly-abled people who feel good about where they are. It's a caring place that also provides the regularity of prepared meals, an orderly environment, and professional staff.

In addition, though, there is some pampering here that helps residents retain regularity and dignity, spending time in the onsite beauty salon or in the theatre, with friends. The diverse calendar of activities is perfectly suited to the needs of residents. Pets onsite encourage interaction and reduce anxiety and loneliness. Symphony also encourages healing through its circle of care; this forms inter-familial bonds and creates a community of Ottawa and area families learning together, how to cope with the impact of dementia.

Reviews of Carleton Place Terrace by Symphony

What residents and their loved ones say about Carleton Place Terrace by Symphony in reviews.

Amanda Mulloy, family member

"My grandmother was at [Carleton Place Terrace] for a couple of years before having to move into long-term care. It was an excellent experience for her, she was very isolated on her own in her home prior and we were shocked at how social she became, eating her meals with new friends and participating in activities especially arts and crafts."

Alexa Ives, family member

"My parents recently moved into the Terrace and were welcomed from day one with open arms. They have been treated with respect and dignity and seem to be very attentive. They have a lovely suite with ample room to move around with walkers. There are enough social activities to get them out of their room during this lock down times and keep them engaged. The protocols for visitors with the pandemic are stricter than some other residences it seems, but it's keeping them all safe so I appreciate the..."

Debbie Byers, family member

"My mom has been here for a few years now. The staff are all friendly and caring. It hit me hard when I dropped my mom back at the residence after being in the hospital for 2 weeks. Everyone was soooo excited to see her, my mom has been a difficult client at times, so I was surprised at the outpouring of love! I would recommend the Terrace for your loved ones!"

Dementia & Memory Care (definition)

Our hands-on experience also gives us unique insights and we listen and learn every day. For example, one of our memory support team members suggested we try wearing PJ's during the night, as many residents were waking up and they were confused by people walking around in day clothes and the bright lights; so, we reduced the lighting and changed into PJ's. The best part was when our team members came back to us and said, it's working, our residents see us in PJ's and realize it is the middle of the night and back to bed they go. Sometimes it is the small, common sense ideas that can make a huge difference for our residents with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. We believe in living in the MOMENT.
