The Comfort Life report:
Dr. James Hemstock

Our Perspective

stories

This is the destination for Lloydminster and area residents who appreciate the best things in life. There are many exceptional things to highlight that make this superior to so many other retirement residences in the area. The chef-prepared fine dining makes this a great place to host family events, adding joy to every day. The care on site is offered by skilled professionals focused on a holistic approach to health and wellness. The community life here revitalizes residents who find renewal in new social connections and a superb selection of activities.

Dr. Hemstock Residence & Hearthstone Place brings big city quality and luxury to Lloydminster. Inside its doors, you'll find a group of seniors who demonstrably feel a social connection to each other. This home encourages friendships through its book club, bingo nights, group exercise and a wide collection of other activities that lets people stay as busy as they want. Activities like the ice cream social and tai chi are especially engaging, and there are also yoga sessions and games. Seniors here love the communal life. This place instantly rejuvenates with its vibrant atmosphere.

There are also quiet, relaxing times to be found here, whether that's in the privacy of your spacious studio or apartment, or by relaxing in the library perusing the community collection of books. Outside, spring summer and fall activities include gardening clubs, local hikes, bird-watching and more. This is a community that looks after seniors in a wide variety of ways.

This is an ideal place to live for seniors who no longer want to be on their own. Let someone else take care of the housework, clearing ice off the sidewalk in winter and all those other tiresome chores. This place is ideal for seniors who want more independence.

Community’s Perspective

We asked Dr. James Hemstock to answer the following questions:

Who are you as a community?

Welcome to Dr. Hemstock Residence & Hearthstone Place! We offer independent retirement lifestyles along with personalized support for when you need that extra support to make the day great. Our rustic-chic community is designed with a focus on the heritage and natural environment of the Lloydminster area. A warm community atmosphere and best-in-class services and amenities await you.

  • Opened in: 2002
  • Ownership: Private. A member of Verve Senior Living
  • Languages Spoken: English

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

We are a family. Together we shape who we are, as we instill our values and our vision to create a "Resident-Centric" environment. Staff inspire our residents to experience fulfillment on a level that means something to them. We as a community, strive to deliver sensitivity and care, by respecting all members of our residence. We feel that upon establishing these values, we have created a family-based community. With that being said, this enables is to shape who we are, and what makes us have a family within a community.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

We can offer a buddy system for new residents. This helps them build a sense of belonging. All the managers meet with our new residents so that they get to know them. This allows them to feel comfortable with our staff. Our dinning room is open seating, this helps them get to know other residents. We also encourage family to come and visit to help make the transition easier.

What might residents find surprising about your community?

We exceed expectations because we genuinely care for our residents. We try our hardest to make our new residents feel included. Our Life Enrichment is a wonderful team, that plans many outings throughout the year. Our staff understands that each resident is an individual and we treat them as such. We get to know each resident, who they are, and what their life story is.

What five facts about your community should people know?

1. We are located in Canada's only provincial border city.
2. We have 131 suites between our two buildings, Dr. Hemstock and Hearthstone Place.
3. We can easily accommodate dietary needs. Whether it is a low-sodium, diabetic, celiac, or you have allergies, we can incorporate it.
4. We have a receptionist working seven days a week, including holidays. They are a friendly team, that are happy to help with our residents needs.
5. Each suite has the resident’s names outside so that friends and family know where they are. It also helps with resident's memory.

Reviews of Dr. James Hemstock

Lois Phillips, family member
"The staff at the Dr Hemstock are nothing but AMAZING! They are very friendly, happy, helpful and caring towards the residents. They bend over backwards to take care of my mom, Jean. She loves the staff and says they spoil her with good food. During this Covid lockdown they are covering for all of us who cannot visit family members. My mom did her first ever FaceTime with me this morning thanks to Shannon who set it all up. This is not an easy time but they are keeping the residents healthy..."

Sharon, family member
" [Mom] is adjusting very well to her new home ... Staff has always been very friendly and polite and the facility very well kept. Glad she made the move."

Manny , family member
"Staff are professional and courteous. They are very good to my grandpa."
