The Comfort Life report:
Summerhill PARC

Our Perspective

stories

This is an ideal place to move into, if you are an independent senior in Vancouver seeking rejuvenation in a new community of people your own age. Let someone else take care of all the mundane cares (now burdens) of living in your own home. After you look at Summerhill and look at the cost realistically, you'll never want to be anywhere else in Greater Vancouver. As residents here say, there's always something going on.

Another fine example of how to make the very best of retirement living, from PARC, makers of a number of superior retirement homes throughout Greater Vancouver. You can forget all about housework and meals, and find happiness and contentment here, with as much activity and social life (or relaxation and privacy!) as you wish.

The outdoor patio is more like an outdoor playground for seniors, with luxurious comfy chairs; it's a perfectly peaceful place to relax, visit, whatever you want to do. Inside, the luxury-hotel-like suites offer space and impeccable cleanliness in a professional décor. The many features here include a library, a spacious billiards and games room, and superior chef-prepared meals that are both delectable and healthful, served every day in the elegant dining room.

Community’s Perspective

We asked Summerhill PARC to answer the following questions:

Who are you as a community?

Just half a block off Lonsdale, Summerhill PARC is close to shops, cafes, banks, medical offices and transit. Overlooking the Burrard Inlet, each suite offers a unique, eye-catching vista of the surrounding ocean and mountains. The company’s focus on health and wellness comes through their Independent Living+ program, offering residents access to fitness facilities, hobby rooms, nutritious menu choices and exceptional chef-prepared dining, and a Wellness Nurse on staff.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

Summerhill PARC has not responded to this question yet.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

What might residents find surprising about your community?

Dorothy, resident
"Exercise classes three times a week ... bus excursions ... bingo ... the casino ... Before moving in here, I was alone ... There's simply no time to think about feeling bad or lonely here... Life is great!"

Dining

Our talented culinary teams thrive on creating a daily array of menu choices that are full of flavour and variety. Our Executive Chefs come from high-end hotels and restaurants and you’ll see their passion for food and hospitality come through in the delicious food they prepare everyday. Menu options don’t come down in a cookie-cutter approach from head office. At each residence, the Executive Chef and their culinary teams plan, prep and create their menu options to fit the tastes of their unique communities. Menus are designed around whole grains, fresh produce (some grown onsite in our own gardens), the right amount of protein and plenty of nutrients. In addition to regular well-balanced foods, we’re pleased to offer PARC SMART portion-controlled entrees which are low in sodium, saturated fat and concentrated sugars.

COVID-19 Information

The pandemic has been a tough time for seniors and their loved ones across Canada. But through it all, Summerhill PARC (along with all PARC communities) has stayed ahead of the curve, keeping our residents safe and healthy, and our communities COVID-19-free. This is partly thanks to our well-trained team, who quickly and proactively implemented provincial government health-and-safety protocols. But independent retirement communities like PARC are also uniquely positioned to keep residents safe during a pandemic, with multiple layers of defense already in place, from onsite wellness nurses to established sanitization and emergency protocols. As well, we offer chef-prepared meals, weekly suite housekeeping, and private transportation – lifelines when busy grocery stores and public spaces pose risks to seniors. To protect our residents from COVID-19, we've implemented extra sanitization, physical distancing, mandatory face masks for employees, free resources for residents to shop, and socialize online and family meet-up centres with plexiglass barriers and virus-prevention filtration systems. Summerhill PARC is as committed as ever to creating safe, independent, respectful, and healthy communities for our residents.
