Our Perspective

How we see Richmond Care Home

Ottawa Region families facing a dementia diagnosis for their mom or grandmother will find a completely unique approach in Richmond Care Home. Situated in a unique 16 bed home set well off Nixon Farm Drive, this feels like a serene country resort in the city. The house-like setting and the sheer professionalism of staff combine to make this a homey, adept approach to care for Alzheimer's and other dementia.

Richmond Care Home’s cozy intimacy makes it an easy adaptation for women dealing with early to middle stage effects of dementia, and who acknowledge they need help. Inside, there are clean wood grain interiors and furniture, and older women will feel an instant connection and familiarity with the home. It’s just nice. There’s a full schedule of daily recreational activities, including everything from live music to bingo.

Because of the community’s specialization and experience, staff here excels at care. They go well above and beyond in attending to and listening to the needs of the women here. When you see them in action, a deep sense of compassion and understanding is immediately apparent. Families who have exhausted time and caregiving resources for a mother or grandmother showing symptoms like memory loss, sundowning, or wandering, will find relief in the care here.

Decline due to dementia is a new phase in your relationship with your loved one. That challenge is relieved when you find a place entirely dedicated to this kind of care, set in a location like this, staffed by people as professional and well-versed in dementia care as these carers. Richmond Care Home makes the shift out of mom’s traditional family home a soft landing, one that you’ll feel good about over the months and years after you make this move.
