About The Briton House

Founded by Russel B. Wells in 1976, The Briton House Retirement Centre was established with a vision to create a place where residents find community, physical, intellectual, and spiritual nourishment, and most importantly, care. Today, it is one of the few family-owned and operated retirement residences in the region dedicated to the highest standards of service by experienced staff members.

The Briton House offers a wide variety of activities, varied suites and the ability to enjoy a 15,000 square foot indoor garden all year round. Our facility also includes a recital hall built for live performances, a glass-domed swimming pool, a gym, a sun-simulation room, an outdoor courtyard, and a spacious dining lounge.

The Briton House is conveniently located in the Mount Pleasant and Eglinton neighbourhood of Toronto, within walking distance to local cafes, restaurants, services, and soon the new subway at Mt. Pleasant and Eglinton. If you’re ever in the neighbourhood we invite you to visit us and see what it would be like to be a part of our community and The Briton House family.

COVID-19 Information

What does it mean to care? Over 40 years ago, Russel B. Wells founded the Briton House Retirement Centre. He had a vision to create a place where residents would find exceptional service, community, physical, intellectual, and spiritual nourishment, and most importantly, care. This notion of care has become a cornerstone of our mission and evermore important today.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Briton House has adapted its policies and procedures to protect its residents. In this process, we have experienced the beauty in our community coming together to care for our most vulnerable population. But Care takes a team. It takes our reception staff, screening every person who enters the building. It takes our healthcare staff, made up of doctors, nurses, and personal support workers, who work to ensure the health and safety of our residents. It takes our servers, who have ramped up logistics to provide room service to our entire building. It takes our maintenance, custodian, and housekeeping team who have adapted their procedures to disinfect and sanitize our spaces at an unprecedented level. It takes our social programmers, who have pivoted programming to continue to engage our residents in meaningful ways, while maintaining their safety.
Care comes in many forms and requires many people. Our staff and community have worked tirelessly to ensure our residents are protected, healthy, and happy. They are heroes who exemplify the beauty of care and compassion. We have also received overwhelming support and encouragement from our neighbours and resident family members. We want to thank our community for its support and bravery. We look forward to brighter days ahead and welcoming you to experience what it truly means to care.
From our family to yours, thank you.

Comfort Life Review

stories

A number of things make the Briton House completely unique, beginning with the fact that it’s family-owned and operated. This lends Briton House intimacy and also a consistency of service not found in every retirement home. It’s also remarkable for such an established community to have this many progressive -- and also one-of-a-kind -- features. Standout among these are the year-round indoor garden, a glass-domed salt-water swimming pool, and a recital hall that’s acclaimed for its acoustics.

The loyalty of residents also creates stability among the senior population here. In turn, this creates lasting friendships, but it’s also a gregarious group, eager to share with newcomers. This community is comfortable for any Toronto senior to move to, aided by the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood and its many established shops. The services and staff should make this very inviting. Take a close look and you’ll find your own reasons why its people are so loyal.
