One of the best things about this small town retirement community is its combination of cozy intimacy with some of the pampering and amenities people in larger centres expect. Efficiency and diligent compassion are a hallmark of the staff’s attitude, highlighted when you hear how families talk about this community. Staff bring an old-fashioned work ethic to the care they offer seniors. This community may also appeal to people from Kingston and Ottawa wanting excellent care at rates that are more affordable than similar communities in those cities.
Governors Walk's setting in a historic monastery in the established New Edinburgh neighbourhood hints at the disciplined compassion, soulful community, and peaceful living you'll find here. The care here caters to people’s needs, served enthusiastically by the staff. It offers a grounded, holistic approach to senior living.
Visited my friend at the retirement home today and was genuinely impressed by the seniors — several of them over 90, sharp, cheerful, and full of spirit. They’re already gearing up for the July 1st Canada Day Parade, which will pass by Chateau Glengarry just after noon, followed by all the festivities. The Legion has built a float to celebrate its 100‑year anniversary — honouring Canada, our veterans, and our community. The setup is remarkable: restored jeeps, a beautiful tractor‑trailer unit, and a great mix of people riding on the float and walking alongside, including Community Living participants and residents from Chateau Glengarry. Some Quigley Piper music will announce their arrival.
My mother and sister have lived at the Chateau Glengarry since the fall of 2019. I have always been impressed by the respect, caring, and concern of each staff member toward them. They are always listened to and made to feel valued in their home. Mom and Ann are indeed lucky to be in such surroundings. Thank you to each staff member. You really do make a difference and are much appreciated.
I reside at Chateau Glengarry. I like my room, which is bright and has a beautiful layout. The staff is helpful, and other residents are becoming my new friends.
My parents have been at Chateau Glengarry for over a year now and love the staff and facilities, where they receive great care and have access to fun activities, plus the local community. Alexandria is a great little town and not too far from large cities like Ottawa, Cornwall, and Montreal. They also have great outdoor concerts around the corner in the summertime.
Very good and caring services from all staff members.
Wonderful, caring staff who have a long tenure working at Governors Walk. Located in a beautiful, quaint neighbourhood across from Stanley Park with a wonderful Roof Top Terrace overlooking Parliament Hill, where you can enjoy viewing the fireworks. Residents and families also enjoy barbecues on the Roof Top Terrace, along with staff taking them for walks to Stanley Park when the weather permits.
The place is great.
Governors Walk merges the traditions of its past with progressive, ambitious care programs. Its unique boutique residence neighboring the GG's residence and Stanley Park is nestled into one of Ottawa's most beautiful neighborhoods. A perfect place to Age in Place in style and dignity.
Governor’s Walk was the perfect choice after my 92-year-old father’s three-month hospital stay. Walking to the dining room was a challenge at first, but within a few months, thanks to the many tree-lined river paths, the safe, scenic neighborhood, nearby Rideau Hall grounds, and easy access to grocery stores and restaurants, he can walk several kilometres with his walker. The small residence means the friendly, professional staff know everyone by name, and medication management gives us peace of mind. The food has greatly improved, which he really appreciates. He loves his unit, furnished with his favorite belongings. Governor’s Walk also fared well during a recent COVID outbreak, controlling the spread and adapting procedures. It truly was the right choice!
After a knee surgery, I checked into Governors Walk on Stanley for respite care and I was so very glad I did so. My stay was a great factor in my post surgery recovery and I would recommend this to everyone as our hospitals release people too early post surgery due to a lack of beds and care services. Governors Walk has amazing staff who are friendly willing and go above and beyond to make people feel comfortable and cared for. The individual and common rooms are clean, spacious and bright and the meals are truly very good. I took the opportunity to chat with a couple permanent residents of Governors Walk in the resident’s lounge and dining room and they all made very positive comments in regard to living here. I will not hesitate to return and to recommend it to friends who are seeking a good and safe place for their elderly relatives. My stay was a very positive experience.
Located in the picturesque Alexandria centered between Ottawa & Montreal, our bilingual staff cater to seniors who are independent, need some assistance with daily living tasks, as well as those who are at the onset of needing memory care. You'll enjoy fresh home-cooked food, relax in the privacy of your suite or join in exercise classes & fun activities while enjoying the company of others. Respite & convalescent stays are welcome. Get pampered & live life to the fullest at Chateau Glengarry!

Our dedicated, caring, and professional staff provides a continuum of compassionate services in our all-inclusive residence. Our residence is the perfect place to move for independent seniors as well as those requiring assistance. We offer supportive care for active, self-sufficient, and autonomous Independent seniors. This lifestyle removes some of the burdens of remaining in their own home while offering them a comfortable community life with like-minded seniors. We can also customize a care plan for seniors who require more assistance to support their health and well being. After completing a comprehensive health assessment with our Director of Care will work with our seniors to design a custom services plan to suit their individual needs.Nestled in New Edinburgh, Governors Walk is steps away from the picturesque Rideau River and Stanley Park. A former monastery and friary, Governors Walk is designed to pay respect to the past while featuring a modern touch. Offering a wide range of suite styles and options to suit every senior's taste and designed to maximize independence. Our health and wellness team provide all the comforts and reassurance you will need to live an active and social lifestyle.

We offer a true continuum of care in a setting that still feels warm and personal. From assisted living to memory care, we’re able to support residents in a way that evolves with them. Our focus is always on balancing professional care with a strong sense of community, so residents feel both supported and genuinely at home.
Provide a welcome package for new residents that includes information about the community and surrounding area.
Host social events to help new residents meet others and become more comfortable in their new home.
Offer sessions by the Administrator, Activity Director and each staff to help residents maintain their independence and adapt to new routines.
Offer a variety of amenities, such as fitness facilities and recreational activities, to help residents stay active and engaged.
Emphasize the quality of our staff and their commitment to providing personalized care and attention to each resident.
Create a welcoming and inclusive community atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging and connection among residents and families.
We take a very hands-on, thoughtful approach to helping new residents settle in. From the beginning, we spend time getting to know you—your routines, preferences, and what brings you comfort. Our team helps guide you through daily life here, making introductions and creating opportunities to connect, so those first weeks feel welcoming and reassuring and much less overwhelming.
At Chateau Glengarry, we take a personalized approach as needs change, starting with a comprehensive assessment and a care plan tailored to each resident. Our team works closely with residents and families to adjust support over time, whether that means a little extra help with daily routines or more consistent assistance. Because care is delivered in a familiar, home-like setting, those changes can feel gradual and reassuring. If more advanced memory care or long-term care is needed, a move to a more specialized setting may be required, and we help guide that transition with care and clarity.
Thanks to our continuum of care, we can seamlessly adjust care, without requiring residents to leave the community they’ve come to know. We revisit care plans with residents and families and make thoughtful adjustments that reflect their current needs. This flexible approach allows residents to feel secure, supported, and comfortable no matter what their care needs.
Chateau Glengarry may not be the right fit for someone who requires advanced or highly specialized memory care or a more clinical level of support. Our community is best suited for independent seniors, those who need some assistance with daily living, or those in the early stages of memory change. We’re strongest for individuals who value a warm, all-inclusive setting with personalized care, home-cooked meals, and a close-knit, social environment.
Governors Walk may not be the right fit for someone wanting an independent lifestyle with little to no support, or for someone requiring long-term care. We’re best suited for those who value a supportive environment with care, connection, and daily engagement part of everyday life.
Chateau Glengarry Retirement Home is located in a town that offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, convenient amenities, and friendly people.
The Alexandria town itself is full of charm and character, with a more than 200 years’ history and plenty of cultural attractions to explore.
One of the most notable features of the town is the hospital, which is located just 5 minutes away from the Chateau Glengarry retirement home.
Another area in which Chateau Glengarry Retirement Home stands out is its commitment to environmental sustainability and green living practices
But perhaps what truly sets the town apart is the friendly and welcoming nature of its people, staff, community.
People are surprised by our ability to combine compassionate care with lively daily life. While strong support services are a given, they might not anticipate the sense of community, the welcoming atmosphere, and the variety of daily experiences that make life here full and engaging.
Looking ahead, we’ll continue building on over 35 years of experience creating a supportive and welcoming home for seniors. We’re always finding ways to enhance our all-inclusive lifestyle, from care services to daily programming, while staying focused on what matters most—personalized support, meaningful connections, and a strong sense of community. As needs and expectations evolve, we’ll continue adapting thoughtfully so residents can feel comfortable, engaged, and well cared for every day.
We’ll continue to build on our strengths—enhancing care services, expanding programming, and finding new ways to support residents’ independence and well-being. We’re always evolving, but our focus will remain the same: creating a community where residents feel comfortable, supported, and truly at home.
