Reviews of Chateau Glengarry Retirement

Gain exclusive insight into life at Chateau Glengarry Retirement . Comfort Life’s exclusive verified reviews and videos give you insider information from residents and their families.

Our perspective

One of the best things about this small town retirement community is its combination of cozy intimacy with some of the pampering and amenities people in larger centres expect. Efficiency and diligent compassion are a hallmark of the staff’s attitude, highlighted when you hear how families talk about this community. Staff bring an old-fashioned work ethic to the care they offer seniors. This community may also appeal to people from Kingston and Ottawa wanting excellent care at rates that are more affordable than similar communities in those cities.

Chateau Glengarry combines well-appointed retirement living amenities with the coziness and comfort of a small-town community. The community is neat, tidy and lively. Activities conducted both inside and out are well-attended, including exercise classes inside and social outings held in courtyards or off-site. People enjoy the high quality of the dining served here. Menus meet residents’ dietary needs, and there are dining choices available for every meal.

Care staff here are exceptionally compassionate and caring in their interactions with seniors. There’s deep diligence in the way they treat those in their care. They focus on making sure that seniors here are happy and content, in addition to being well-care for.

More of what people say about this community

We've collected reviews and testimonials from around the web that are relevant to you: those from residents and their loved ones.

Roger Massia, visitor or friend

Visited my friend at the retirement home today and was genuinely impressed by the seniors — several of them over 90, sharp, cheerful, and full of spirit. They’re already gearing up for the July 1st Canada Day Parade, which will pass by Chateau Glengarry just after noon, followed by all the festivities.

The Legion has built a float to celebrate its 100‑year anniversary — honouring Canada, our veterans, and our community. The setup is remarkable: restored jeeps, a beautiful tractor‑trailer unit, and a great mix of people riding on the float and walking alongside, including Community Living participants and residents from Chateau Glengarry. Some Quigley Piper music will announce their arrival.

My mother and sister have lived at the Chateau Glengarry since the fall of 2019. I have always been impressed by the respect, caring, and concern of each staff member toward them. They are always listened to and made to feel valued in their home. Mom and Ann are indeed lucky to be in such surroundings. Thank you to each staff member. You really do make a difference and are much appreciated.

Darlene Lefebvre, resident

I reside at Chateau Glengarry. I like my room, which is bright and has a beautiful layout. The staff is helpful, and other residents are becoming my new friends.

Dave Mansell, family member

My parents have been at Chateau Glengarry for over a year now and love the staff and facilities, where they receive great care and have access to fun activities, plus the local community. Alexandria is a great little town and not too far from large cities like Ottawa, Cornwall, and Montreal. They also have great outdoor concerts around the corner in the summertime.

Rock Robinson, resident

Very good and caring services from all staff members.

Lorna Silverson, visitor or friend

Very professional service.

Celine Michaud, resident

The Chateau Glengarry is a good and relaxing place to live in, where you can relax, enjoy life, food, games, and the staff is always ready to help you and enjoy your stay.

Everything is good here. Service is excellent, always with a smile, food is great, and the health service is good.

Beverly Craig, resident

My name is Beverly Craig, and I’m 82 years old. I’ve been living at Chateau Glengarry for nine years, and I’ve known the owner for seven of those years. I arrived here in June, and from the very beginning, I felt I had made the right choice.

Before coming, I had heard wonderful things about the food—my two aunts lived here in the ’90s and loved it. I didn’t want to live with my family because they have their own lives, and I wanted to stay independent for as long as I could. Chateau Glengarry was my first choice, and I told the hospital discharge planner not to worry about me because I knew I would be well taken care of. And that has been absolutely true.

In these nine years, I’ve hardly had to worry about anything. I can depend on the staff for everything I need. They bend over backwards to help me, which means a lot since I lost my license nine years ago. If I want to go somewhere, I rely on family or friends, but for day-to-day life, the staff here make sure I’m supported.

I would recommend this place to any family looking for a home where their loved one will be truly cared for and satisfied.

The owner is always trying to make things better. She listens to residents, assists staff to improve the menu, builds new things, and makes changes that help both residents and staff. Over the last six or seven years, there have been so many renovations and improvements that have made life here even better. If anyone says otherwise, I simply wouldn’t believe it. As for finances, everything has always been clear, accurate, and honest. I’ve never had a single complaint.

Chateau Glengarry has been my home for nearly a decade, and I’m happy and am encouraging senior people to have their lives here.

Omer L., visitor or friend

Helen was like a godmother to me. I'd known her since I was 15. When her health started acting up, she ended up choosing Chateau Glengarry as her home. I'd go visit her there a lot—she didn't have to worry about cooking, cleaning, laundry, or meds, since everything was taken care of. And the best part? Helen always said the food was just perfect for seniors. Also, the team was helpful during her stay 2 thumbs up!

Wolf Muller, family member

There certainly is an improvement with mom's health since moving in. Her health has become more stable. She's getting her medicines on time. Everything is scheduled. She's changed since moving in. She used to be very anxious about things but now she doesn't bring that up any more.

Carol Larente, family member

They brought my father back to better health -- better than he had been for the past three years. Equally as important, they took away his loneliness. My heartfelt thanks to the entire staff. You gave my father a home and you gave me peace of mind.

Jennifer Asca-Nicholson, family member

I cannot say enough kind words about care my mom received. They were always checking to make sure she was doing okay, if she needed anything, if they could do anything for her.

Pam Swinden, family member

All staff went above the call of duty to make sure Uncle Gerald was comfortable and that he always felt like he was part of the Chateau.
