Our Perspective

How we see The Village of Humber Heights

The availability of a full continuum of care in this community makes it unique. With everything from independent and assisted living through dementia care and long-term care, through palliation, you never need to move again. Perhaps a standout in this is the availability of a memory care neighbourhood, where residents with dementia receive the best care possible thanks to Schlegel's partnership with the Research Institute for Aging at the University of Waterloo.

A hallmark of life at The Village of Humber Heights is the village feeling. This residence is ideal for people who miss the old days when life was simpler, and who love to easily socialize with others. Like other Schlegel Villages, Humber Heights is built around the concept of an old-fashioned small town. Residents can walk down the main street to the town square, where there’s a library, an indoor café, a general store, a chapel and more. All of this creates, in fact, a cheerfully vibrant village centre where old friends meet up, chat and visit. The bonus, of course, is the presence of professional care staff.

Staff here focus on offering resident-centred care and on creating a community that feels a lot like an extended family. That’s built into Schlegel’s mission, thanks to being a family-owned company, with a focus on love above everything else. For example, employee and volunteers’ reviews highlight a focus on service with humility. That philosophy and attitude creates a great place for seniors to live and to thrive.

Reviews of The Village of Humber Heights

What residents and their loved ones say about The Village of Humber Heights in reviews.

Paola Montecinos, family member

"My dad is a resident of this wonderful home. I have nothing but amazing things to say and am blessed he is in such a loving and caring home. Making the decision to put them in a home is always hard. He has advanced Alzheimer’s and the staff at Alderwood floor has taken my dad in like family. They're amazing. Every time I see him—almost daily—he is always clean and smells good and (most important) well taken care off. I can honestly say all staff in the village are wonderful and..."
