Our Perspective

How we see Hawthorn Park Retirement Community - Verve Senior Living

It's easy to make a great new life for yourself at Hawthorn Park. You'll often hear laughter coming from throughout the building. People happily share their lives with each other here and through activities like bingo, strolls with the walking group, or dancing during Happy Hour. The community environment facilitates the formation of new, caring relationships and a renewed love of life.

Hawthorn Park is at the top of the list of retirement homes in Kelowna proper. A number of things about this community make it outstanding: the personalization of each suite, fantastic features inside and out, and its care for dementia sufferers. The suites here are some of the most reasonably priced we have seen for a community of this quality.

When the time comes and you know you have to move, Hawthorn Park allows you to create a new life for yourself, to start over from where you are. You'll find great new friendships with people your own age. There's always just enough to do, no matter who you are or what you like: card games on the patio, yoga classes, or just a chat over coffee. The community is especially nicely decorated throughout -- just one more aspect that facilitates happiness of residents.

One of the nicest things about this community is the amount of flexibility that residents have. This begins with the way residents are able to personalize suites with whatever they want to bring with them from home. Residents also love that they can plant their own choice of flowers in their balcony gardens. At meals you always have a choice between at least two entrees.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

Hawthorn Park has a passion for excellence! We honour and celebrate our seniors, their hopes and dreams, at every opportunity in the unwavering belief that elderhood is a special time and our calling is to nurture and support residents with dedicated focus.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

Residents are introduced to each department manager to explain their role in the community. We assign a resident ambassador to help welcome and orientate them to their new surroundings. The first few days are a time of adjustment, getting to know their new home. To help with this adjustment period we offer complimentary meal escorts. A new resident welcome tea is also planned to introduce them to their peers currently residing in our home.

What might residents find surprising about your community?

Many of our staff have worked at Hawthorn Park for as many as 30 years! Verve is dedicated to teamwork built on trust and mutual empowerment within each one of our retirement residences. We value the input of our residents as part of an environment of mutuality across our organization between our team and those we support. Together, we are better.

What five facts about your community should people know?

1. We are pet friendly!
2. Close to fabulous shops, restaurants, and walking distance to beautiful Okanagan Lake!
3. Continuum of care, aging in place
4. Newly renovated main floor and suites
5. Heated Indoor saltwater pool and hot tub
