Our Perspective

How we see Prince of Peace

This community is ideal for Calgary families and seniors looking for something a little different, something a little more ideally relaxed. The location just outside of Calgary in Rocky View County, is an idyllic location that offers quiet, country living close to the city. In addition, this is close to the highway, making it easily accessible for family members from throughout the area.

Prince of Peace lives up to its name with its tranquil countryside setting, in a community close enough to the city to make visits easy for family from the city. Inside, there are delicious chef-prepared meals and features that appeal to a variety of tastes, including a tuck shop, woodworking shop, chapel and more. Outside, residents enjoy a quiet stroll with views of the open prairie on one side and the spectacular Rockies on the other.

Care staff here is focused on offering "person-centered" care. Seniors are encouraged to improve their own health and wellness through the excellent food on the menu combined with local fitness facilities. A physician is also on call, and nurses are on staff around the clock. This community offers improved living for newly moved seniors, with many contemporary features like walk-in showers and other accessibility.

Community’s Perspective

How Prince of Peace sees itself

Who are you as a community?

Enjoy stunning prairie and mountain views while strolling the pathways that surround the Communities two lakes, marsh, and Aspen tree groves. Welcome to Prince of Peace Retirement Community: Alberta’s idyllic spot for senior living. Our person-centered approach infuses every lifestyle option, from Independent Living to Memory Care, with customizable personal care services. Our services and amenities are designed to support your through life’s changes in a safe and comfortable community.

  • Opened in: 2004
  • Ownership: Non-profit.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

What sets our community apart is the blend of stunning prairie and mountain views in a peaceful country setting; just five minutes from city amenities, paired with personalized, resident-focused care. Seniors and families choose us for our warm, supportive environment that evolves with individual needs, offering everything from Independent Living to Memory Care. Our customizable services and strong sense of community provide comfort, continuity, and peace of mind for both residents and their loved ones.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

We understand that moving into a retirement community can be both exciting and overwhelming, which is why we offer a range of personalized supports to help residents adjust and feel at home. Each new resident receives a comprehensive orientation led by our department managers, along with a detailed resident handbook for ongoing reference. During the initial transition period, we assist residents to and from meals and activities to ensure comfort and ease. To foster social connections, we pair long-standing residents and newcomers at meal times so they can mingle and form friendships.

How are residents supported if their needs change?

Our team conducts regular wellness assessments and remains in close communication with residents and their families to ensure that care plans remain appropriate and responsive to each individual’s needs. Our goal is to ensure residents continue to receive the right level of support while maintaining as much independence and dignity as possible. A resident may need to move units or to a different level of care if their needs exceed what we can safely and effectively provide in their current living arrangement. This might occur if they require advanced memory care, 24-hour skilled nursing, or other specialized services. We offer hands-on support throughout the transition process.

Under what conditions would you advise someone against choosing your community?

We are an ideal choice for seniors who value a modest, faith-based lifestyle rooted in community. Our environment is best suited for those who appreciate a supportive, faith-based atmosphere. We may not be the right fit for everyone; particularly those seeking specialized healthcare for complex medical needs, a highly independent or urban lifestyle, or apartment-style living with full kitchens and a strong desire to continue cooking, cleaning, and maintaining full autonomy. Our priority is to help each senior find a community that truly matches their needs and values. If that place isn’t with us, we’re more than happy to help guide them in the right direction; because to us, the right fit matters more than simply filling a room.

What might residents find surprising about your community?

Moving to a senior living community can feel like a big step. For many, it initially seems like a loss of independence, a sign that they’ll have to give up the routines and activities they enjoy. But time and again, our residents at Prince of Peace discover the opposite. Once they settle in, they find themselves more socially engaged, more active, and often stepping outside their comfort zones to try new things. What once felt like a step back becomes a meaningful step forward in quality of life.

How will your community change in the next five years?

Prince of Peace has not responded to this question yet.

What five facts about your community should people know?

1. We are nestled into the idyllic country setting with stunning prairie and mountain views with the convivence of city amenities a short 5 min drive away.
2. Our environment is best suited for those who appreciate a supportive, faith-based atmosphere.
3. Where pets are treated like family, we welcome all four-legged friends whether it is for a short visit or as a new addition to our family.
4. We offer a culinary experience to remember, our three wholesome meals offer plenty of choices and are red seal approved by our in-house chef.
5. There is something for everyone! Whether you are an artist, musician, spiritual, or love to keep active we have a personalized daily activity calendar created by our in-house recreational therapist.

"What a lovely place. The staff are all so kind and full of compassion and knowledge! The nurses go above and beyond and the whole place is clean and sanitary (a priority for my family)! The food is also amazing and I really appreciate all the activities and fun events the staff plan. It really brightens the patient's days and helps the days not blend in to one another. I think it's vital to have something to look forward to and socialization for quality of life and to ward off dementia! Thank y..."
