Safe, Secure and Among Family

Evanston Summit resident Mabel was one of dozens who expressed messages of hope during recent days.

“I feel loved and safe, by the most caring, kind, understanding people that I have had the pleasure of knowing,” reads a thank you card from Evanston Summit resident Carol Boyd. This type of expression of gratitude and support is commonplace at this Covenant Living residence in Northwest Calgary, particularly over the last few months.

“The residents at Evanston Summit are an active, independent group of retirees,” says the residence’s Site Manager Carrie Erickson. “They make the choice to live at Evanston Summit because of the friendships and fellowship of living here, plus the excellent hospitality services, like dining and housekeeping, that we offer. While they are always so generous in their praise of our team, their appreciation was even more evident as staff has been going above and beyond in the last few months to continue to offer those services and ensure everyone stayed well and busy.”

Covenant Living, a part of the Catholic non-profit Covenant Family which has served the health care needs of Albertans for more than 150 years, operates two seniors’ residences in the province – Evanston Summit in Calgary and Martha’s House in Lethbridge.  Like all other facets of the Covenant Family, Evanston Summit and Martha’s House strive to uphold the mission of Covenant: To continue the healing ministry of Jesus by serving with compassion, upholding the sacredness of life in all stages, and caring for the whole person – body, mind and soul.  It’s an ideal mission for a seniors’ housing organization as it encompasses all elements of a fulfilling lifestyle supported by the services that mean residents can remain independent.

Evanston Summit offers residents a choice of one- and two-bedroom apartment sizes and layouts, all with in-suite laundry. The building boasts several lovely amenity spaces, including a number that are ideal for welcoming friends and family. The charming dining room and beautiful exterior courtyard are among the favourites of residents and guests. And, with winter around the corner, drivers appreciate the convenience of an underground parking garage.  Despite the attractive surroundings, however, most people would agree that it is the people of Evanston Summit that make it so special.

A resident recently wrote “To all the wonderful people working here. You are doing such a super job keeping us healthy and at the same time making sure we are all happy. We are blessed to have you during this difficult time. Thank you.”

“We are here to support our residents, says Carrie, “and they, in turn, support us with their friendship and faith. Evanston Summit is simply a wonderful place — whether you live here as a resident or work here as a team member.”
