This place is totally AWESOME !!! My Father just moved in last Thursday and he loves it here. I'm very impressed as well. I had lunch ( in a Private dining room that reminded me of my Grandmother's dining room for special occasions, filled with antique China Cabinets with old china dishes ) and the food was great ( I couldn't even eat all of my main entree ). The Studio Unit he has is just the right size ( and he has alot of stuff ) and the whole place seems more like a resort than an institution. Even has an indoor pool with hot tub.
Nice suites. The level of care my wife's aunt receives seems quite good.
Mom lives there. Always something going on to keep her busy and looking forward. They seem to ho above and beyond at whatever they do
Before calling Richmond Woods my home, I lived in Kingston, Ontario. Following the passing of my husband, my son and daughter in law wanted me to live closer to them in London. They did most of the research and thought that Richmond Woods was the nicest of the retirement residences that they toured; I was pleased to be closer to my family.
I would definitely recommend Richmond Woods to friends. I love the location, situated with some surrounding forest, and I really like the staff members. My advice to those searching for a new home is to weigh the things most important to you. For example, when I first moved in I Iived in a spacious suite upstairs, but I decided I'd prefer ground level with easier access to the outdoors because I love to go on walks and spend lots of time on my patio. And bring along the sentimental things and let everything else go. I have a desk that I purchased at an auction with my husband. I secretly bid on it and he did not find out the highest bidder until it was delivered at our home!
One of my favourite parts about living here is the bus trips that take place through the recreation group. I love being able to get out and the arrival back at Richmond Woods always makes me feel like I'm coming home.
I like the idea that healthy meals were built into the cost of living here, and I didn't have to shop for groceries or make meals. I enjoy the many conveniences [here] including the gym, library and pool. I highly recommend it as a retirement choice. The dining room creates opportunity for relationships and a sense of community. The staff do an excellent job of keeping the residence clean and I love the easy access to patio where I can enjoy the summer time and entertain friends outside!
Having moved my Dad into Oakcrossing in September 2021 we are so thankful and pleased at this amazing facility. The staff is top notch, and I would love to name them all and give them a shout out, there are so many amazing people that work here I would be afraid of missing someone. I can't always visit due to distance, Oakcrossing makes it easy with an option for virtual visits which they set up completely, making it foolproof with my technology challenged Dad. There are lots of common spaces, and a variety of activities and events and my dad picks what he enjoys doing. He raves about the food... My Dad is honestly loving this facility. That is the greatest gift to family members, peace of mind, for those who worry about the health and happiness of an elderly loved one.
We moved here for the sake of my husband, John. He was in assisted living here for a while, then transferred to long-term care when a room opened up. I could just go down the hallway over to the other building. And I could see that he had very good care over there, too. It was a godsend, really ... The staff are wonderful. All very helpful. All wonderful. You just have to ask ... It's a wonderful community. Everybody here is friends. It's interesting, because we often find out we have connections and things in common even though we didn't know each other.
The food here is superior. It's a lot of little things that make a big difference. We've had some new people coming in, just for a lunch, and they told us, “we can't believe the chatting you folks do!†But that's how it is here. Everyone accepts you the way you were. There's no people up here or down there, it's all the same, no matter what your experience was, we're all the same.
My dad seems happy and contented living here, and my life is exponentially better. I visit him 4 or 5 times a week. When I visit my dad and look at his surroundings and the people there, I think to myself that if I had to live in a retirement community, I could easily live at Oakcrossing, and be quite happy there.
My parents are both [here]. I know they are getting the best care possible here. The staff are great.
