Regulation
The Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) traditionally set operating standards for senior homes. Since 2010, the RHRA has taken a more proactive role in regulating the retirement home industry in the province of Ontario. It licenses retirement residences and refuses licenses to some applications. Other licenses are offered with conditions, and sometimes licenses are revoked. Learn more about the RHRA.
Meadowvale has a large number of senior residences that are still members of ORCA. The innovatively planned retirement homes provide the best of care along with modern amenities, world-class facilities and a healthy social life for elderly family members. The various types of retirement homes in Meadowvale allow seniors to pursue their interests, discover new hobbies, form new friendships, and live with contentment.
Living in Meadowvale and finding the right retirement home
Meadowvale was originally a village in the 19th and early 20th centuries, in Toronto Township. In the 1970s, Meadowvale was selected to be the name of a new town community for the newly (1974) incorporated City of Mississauga; the name was applied to a development a few miles west along Derry Road. Meadowvale Village was recognized as Ontario’s first Heritage Conservation District in 1980. The larger Mississauga community is sensitive to the issues concerning seniors. Community resources and services enable seniors to live full, active and healthy lives in this region. Meadowvale has several seniors’ social clubs, games, crafts and social activities for the elderly.
