Onsite features here appeal to people’s different interests and enthusiasms. Popular amenities include the pub, exercise room and dining area. The Village of Arbour Trails allows residents to find their own balance between privacy and activity.
Arbour Trails is another excellent example of the village concept from Schlegel Villages. The innovative layout focuses on a centralized town square, where residents meet or mingle. Here, you'll find a library, a theatre, a gift shop, and other village outlets. There’s also a scenic pond on the grounds.
Exceptional care here includes onsite personal service workers, housekeeping staff, and more. The vibrancy of the community extends to staff, who visibly demonstrate a love for their work. This residence is centrally located in Guelph, near the Arboretum and some of Guelph University's outlying features.

Who are you as a community?
Situated on the beautiful grounds of The Village by the Aboretum, The Village of Arbour Trails features Bungalow Townhouses, Independent Living Apartments with full kitchens, Retirement Apartments, Full Service Retirement Suites with walk out patios, Assisted Care and Memory Care, plus our signature Town Square and Main Street. Our friendly, well trained team, includes 24 hour professional nursing staff for your comfort and security. Come and discover why "It Takes a Village to Care".

What do you do differently or uniquely well?
The Village concept that sets us apart was always meant to create a living space for seniors that feels like a small town. In many ways this is similar to the experience our founder, Ron Schlegel, had growing up in Ailsa Craig outside of London, Ont. Our Main Street connects to the Town Square as the social spine of the Village. Together these spaces allow for indoor and accessible options for residents to live life as they always have. Ron also envisioned the Village as community hubs for seniors and others from the surrounding community. His vision was to connect the Village to the broader community to enhance the lives of residents as well as support those living outside the Village.
What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?
Each resident who calls the Village home, comes with a unique life story. By completing our My Experience (ME) Form, you help us better understand your life, experiences, values and preferences. In order to support you to live well within our village, we need to begin by hearing your story. Your dedicated Village Experience Coordinator helps guide you through this paperwork and helps make the move-in experience as smooth as possible. Our resident Welcoming Committee strives to help their new neighbours feel welcomed and connected.
How are residents supported if their needs change?
The Village of Arbour Trails gives residents access to a range of living options. In addition to retirement living apartments and independent living, the Village offers assisted living and memory care,supported by professional care teams. This structure allows residents to receive additional support as their needs evolve while remaining in familiar surroundings and maintaining the relationships they have built in the village
Under what conditions would you advise someone against choosing your community?
People seeking a small residence, a lot of privacy, or minimal community interaction may find a different type of setting more suitable. Arbour Trails is designed for seniors who appreciate a vibrant village setting with shared spaces, programs, and a range of care and service options. Our community tends to appeal to those who value connection, flexibility, and the reassurance of a broader continuum of care.
What might residents find surprising about your community?
New residents often say “I wish I had done this sooner!” They’re surprised by how quickly they become absorbed in the community and how fast new friendships develop. In no time at all, everybody knows their name and like in any small town, a walk down Main Street is an opportunity to connect with friends and new acquaintances. People are also surprised by opportunities offered to grow and learn in their new community. They find new passions like hosting a podcast, riding a mechanical bull, becoming an artist or fulfilling a lifelong dream of skydiving. As they say, the possibilities are endless.
How will your community change in the next five years?
Over the next few years, Arbour Trails will continue strengthening our village model, supporting residents throughout the aging process. We’ll stay focused on enhancing care services, community programming, and partnerships within the Village by the Arboretum so residents can remain active and engaged. Future developments will continue supporting aging in place while maintaining the welcoming village environment that residents value.

"I love having moved into Arbour Trails in late October and I am happy here. Staff is friendly and caring. They really take care of the residents. The facility is kept clean and tidy. Food is quite good and reasonable variety is provided. I have enjoyed the entertainment provided though it has been restricted at times because of a coronavirus outbreak and some covid infections. At Schlegel Villages we have two Neighbourhoods that support resident independence. As a Becker resident, you will enjoy living in a spacious apartment with a kitchenette featuring a full-size fridge and microwave, as well as an in-suite washer and dryer. Lunch and dinner are included in the cost, as well as weekly housekeeping and linen laundry. Additional services are available to purchase. In Williamsburg, our Full-Service Retirement Neighbourhood, you will benefit from supports to help you maintain your independence, including all the services listed below. All Williamsburg suites have a kitchenette and are on the Main Floor, with a beautiful walk-out patio. Residents in both of these Neighbourhoods benefit from all of the amenities and events that keep Main Street bustling throughout the day.

Emma's neighbourhood is designed for residents living with memory loss and offers care and recreation programs specifically designed for those with Alzheimer's Disease and other related forms of dementia.
