Our Perspective

How we see The Village of Glendale Crossing

The Village of Glendale Crossing creates a good-natured community made up of both seniors and staff. The care and nursing staff here get an especially high grade for “going that extra mile” as part of their daily routine. With the opening of Phase 3 in 2023, The Village became a fuller, more vibrant community that benefits strongly from Schlegel’s town square layout and other features. Friends meet each other throughout the building, and a lively daily activities schedule further enhances the social life.

An established long-term care community, The Village now provides happy retirement living for a diverse group of seniors, as Schlegel does in other communities across the province. There’s an indoor cafe where friends meet, a library where readers relax or chat quietly by the fieldstone fireplace, a chapel, a general store, a community center, a greenhouse, a beauty salon and barber shop, and a hobby and craft room. The Ruby dining room and The Riverstone spa and salon make it feel like a resort. Seniors thrive here.

As much as Glendale Crossing feels like a small town, even more so, it feels like a place you want to call home, where you feel you can live very nicely. In independent living and senior apartments, seniors find daily joy in many friends just outside the door of their suites. It really feels like an old-fashioned Village that combines care for your neighbour with a focus on positivity, in a secure setting where everyone trusts each other. And it manifests Schlegel's visionary ideal of seniors' villages that blend all the up-to-the-minute finest features of senior living.

Reviews of The Village of Glendale Crossing

What residents and their loved ones say about The Village of Glendale Crossing in reviews.

Joan Demetriadis, resident

"My husband and I moved into Glendale Crossing retirement residence on February 15, 2024. Our son Jerry checked it out after I had suffered a stroke in Dec 2023 and was in Rehabilitation at Parkwood. He described Glendale as walking into a resort hotel and after a tour and meeting with the staff, he was convinced this was the best place for us. We couldn’t be happier or more content here at Glendale. It provides so much for the residents. Music, games all kinds of activities and outings. We ha..."

Glenda Croke, family member

"We received the warmest welcome from Monika. The residence is beautiful, open & bright. My dad was thrilled as this was not what he was not expecting. He has been living in a 1 bedroom apartment for 5 months. He opted for lunch & dinner to be included. He feeds the fish in the back pond every morning and walks to nearby stores & around the neighbourhood. He can often be seen working at a puzzle in the games room where he has met some wonderful people. We couldn’t be happier for him."

Jack Eizenga, resident

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to the village of Glendale Crossing for creating such a lovely place for seniors to live. The thought and care that went into every detail Is evident the moment that you step in the lobby. It’s clear that the well-being and happiness is of their residents was at the forefront of their vision. And while the facility is absolutely beautiful, it’s the kind, compassionate, and dedicated staff that make Glendale Crossing, an exceptional place to live. I’m..."

Residents will enjoy private time in either a studio or one-bedroom suite, while also having access to gathering spaces and programs in the Neighbourhood, as well as larger Village programs on Main Street. At Schlegel Villages, we believe there is no “loss of self”, but rather a “change in self” with the progression of dementia. Our Signature Program, LIVING in My Today, supports people living with dementia as they tap into their strengths, express themselves and enjoy the comfort and security of friendships in a place where they experience acceptance and belonging. Our emphasis on developing relationships while understanding the experience of those living with dementia forms the foundation of The Five Pillars of LIVING in My Today: (MEETS) Meaningful and Active Engagement, Enjoyable Mealtimes, Empowered Care Partners, Thoughtful Design and Supportive Approaches. Our dedicated team works with and cares for residents, supporting them to live well each day, regardless of what that day looks like.
