Reviews of Livita Queens Avenue Retirement Residence

Gain exclusive insight into life at Livita Queens Avenue Retirement Residence. Comfort Life’s reviews give you exclusive insider information.

Our perspective

This community is unanimously praised by residents and family members. It’s especially noted for the staff’s professionalism, personal warmth, attentiveness, and compassion. They go beyond duties to give personal time and express a personal interest in those in their care, and as one family member puts it, they anticipate needs. They create a warm community that makes seniors’ lives easier and better.

When you walk into Livita Queens Avenue you’ll discover a blossoming community. The lobby itself is bright, fresh, and up-to-date, and as you pass through the building, you’ll witness people visiting together in shared lounges. Staff and residents are friendly and personable. People are active in exercise programs or in the games room.

Residents exclaim about the many daily activities, and depending on what time of day you visit, you might witness anything from Bingo to hymn sings. There are also out trips to local shopping. In summer there are barbecues as well as gardening activities.

Food in this community is home-style cooking with fresh items, some of them grown right on the property. Dining is an important part of QARR’s holistic approach to care. There’s also a bistro and residents are welcome to cook in their own suites. Altogether, Livita Queens Avenue is a wonderfully caring community, where you’re free to enjoy life to its fullest.

Yesterday, my mother celebrated 20 years at Queens Avenue Retirement Residence. When she first arrived, there were few residents that had mobility issues. Since then it has been amazing to see the staff and management adapt to an aging population. Most recently the staff had to adapt to caring for their residents during a pandemic. They have done so beautifully. My family is thankful to have found this jewel of a place and are so grateful for the level of care afforded to our mom.

If you're looking for loving, compassionate, and holistic care for your loved one Queen's Avenue (QARR) is the ONE. Both of our parents were very fortunate to be family members of QARR. They were always greeted with an infectious smile and excellent care from the staff.

I would highly recommend the Queens Avenue Retirement Residence. As soon as you enter Queens Avenue you will find yourself in a very welcoming lobby. The recent renovations on the main floor, which include a sitting area with a fireplace, as well as a bistro, are very inviting. The apartments are spacious and well laid out. The best part of Queens Avenue is the staff! All of the staff, including housekeeping, kitchen, administration, and especially the PSW and nursing care staff have become like family. The attention to personal safety and well-being is highly apparent. During this uncertain time, I had full confidence in the goings on of Queens Avenue Retirement.

Our mom is the ‘difficult to please’ type. Queens Ave has done a fantastic job – especially during this time of quarantines with increased activities and client services. She is happy, which means a lot less stress for us. Special mention to Darlene and Tom for their responsiveness to us and to Gretal and the nursing team for going above and beyond including not only taking her to dentist and Dr appointments but dealing proactively with medical issues. Not to mention the time the team tended to her and managed her pain meds after she cracked her ribs. Maybe most importantly, the staff has conscientiously adhered to stringent safety policies resulting in what we understand is industry leading resident well-being.

It's fair to say that an excellent retirement home is not just were the staff are great and the food is good - it's a place where needs are more anticipated than just noticed; where nourishment is for the body, yes, but mind and spirit too. It's where our elders experience the care and loving they have given us - every month and week, day and moment of each year. It is where my uncle and aunt found a wonderful next home - where they became part of a larger family. Many years ago THEY chose the Queens Avenue Retirement Residence and we are oh so pleased they did.

Our entire family want to thank the staff and caregivers at queens avenue for doing such a fantastic job with all their residents and each other. They went out of their way to make our mom’s 90 th birthday very special even though she couldn’t see family on her day because of covid 19. The team work so well together coordinating care, activities and helping everybody feel that this is their home and they are safe and well taken care of. This means so much to us as we are spread out across Barrie, Hamilton, and Oakville. We would highly recommend Queens as an assistant living residence for parents who are needing extra care and companionship that family can’t always provide. It is a quaint 4 story residence with greenery and closeness to highways too. Thank you once again to the entire staff for working so well to keep smiles on our parents' faces. It was the best move for our mom after 50 years in her family home. She has met so many wonderful friends and caregivers.

We have a close family friend who just turned 90 in March. She has lived in the Queens Avenue Retirement Residence (QARR) for over 10 years and has been extremely happy there. I am her POA and, at long last, have had to move her to a Long-Term Care Facility due to health Issues that could not be handled at QARR . The preparation for this event was in process for almost 2 years and was an extremely difficult and sad event for both of us but, thanks to the QARR Staff we were able to make it happen with minimum effort and problems. As follow up, several the QARR staff are making visits to cheer her on in her new location and environment.
QARR has been a God Send over the years especially after the death of her husband a few years ago. They helped her to adjust to her new life without her husband and went above and beyond to watched over her closely to ensure all was ok.
In the years that I have visited our family friend at QARR (4-8 times per month), I have found that the staff are a fantastic group of people that are extremely happy, helpful and caring. Not only do they take care of the day to day local duties but, they also take it upon themselves that make sure everyone stays happy and well cared for.
Here are just a few of the things that make QARR an outstanding place to live:
Administrative staff that watch, listen and try to understand and advise on everyone’s individual situation and needs. This includes coordination with family/friends, external nonfamily care givers and, various outside organizations including government, private and, volunteer that help to ensure that the residents are getting the best care possible.
A nursing staff that takes care of the day to day health issues, medication dispensing where necessary and, coordinating/notifying family, family doctors and, higher level medical authority/providers where necessary.
A cleaning staff that ensures that the apartments are well cared for and clean and that also act to monitor the wellbeing of the residents.
Maintenance Staff that ensure that everything in the building and the apartments are in good working order.
Kitchen Staff that strive for excellence in the preparation and, palatability of meals as well as and preparation of the daily/weekly menus, ensuring sufficient food variety for every ones satisfaction.
Activity Staff that make sure there are plenty of daily activities planned for varied interests, this includes a monthly day by day Activity Calendar, special events and outings.
Areas set aside for residents include: Rec room, Library, meeting rooms, as well as many open spaces to sit and talk. Each floor has a balcony.
Weather permitting, walkways and green areas outside the building make for sitting out doors or just taking a stroll.
The building has easy wheelchair/walker accessibility
Close proximity to Oakville Place, 8-10 minutes’ walk, 5 minutes by scooter, 3 minutes by Uber or, Special Vehicle Transport. Many of the residents find this a convenient place for shopping, eating out, enjoying a cup of coffee or, just hanging out.
Note: Some of the things mentioned above may involve paid services or may have a participation fee. Consult with Queens Avenue Retirement Residence for specifics.

After 52 years in their house, the in-laws had to move into a retirement residence where they could receive the care they needed and deserved. Fortunately, the staff at Queens Retirement Residence made the transition as easy and pleasant as it could possibly be. We were repeatedly impressed and relieved at the level of professionalism and personal warmth they demonstrated, as we worked together to overcome the various obstacles that inevitably present themselves. In the end, the well-being of the in-laws skyrocketed. And our worry and concern vanished. We now enjoy visiting both the staff and residents as often as we can, because it's an absolute pleasure to be there. If you're considering moving to a retirement residence, we cannot recommend Queens Avenue Retirement highly enough.
