Since 1977, the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) has been the voice of Ontario’s retirement communities and they remain committed to setting a standard of operational excellence in the sector. ORCA represents over 92 per cent of all licensed retirement community suites in Ontario, with members caring for nearly 60,000 seniors who choose to call retirement communities their home. ORCA’s membership also includes over 240 commercial partners who provide products and valuable services to retirement communities throughout the province.

ORCA works closely and actively with a number of organizations dedicated to supporting and protecting Ontario seniors. The association is an integrated partner with a variety of health, social and community organizations, reflecting the role of retirement living operators as important providers of services to today's seniors.
ORCA and accreditation
Note that for a long time, ORCA was the main accreditation body for retirement homes in Ontario, and offered accreditation until April 2017. The accreditation status will remain valid until expiration (three years from the date of accreditation). ORCA accredited residences have "undergone a full operational review of all provincial regulations and best operational practices."
Since 2010, the RHRA licenses retirement homes and maintains a Public Register.
